The evolution of my Stevens 200 .22-250 from box stock to what I'm finally happy with.

1961sg

Here is the gun fresh out of the box with the hideous grey stock.

Here it is after painting the stock a lame camo pattern and adding a Nikon 4.5-14X42 AO scope.

And finally with the Nutmeg Boyd's laminate thumbhole stock. I got the stock for $105 after shipping and currency conversion. I had to move the forward mounting hole but that was easy enough with a piece of dowel and a drill plus a few more small adjustments. Including finishing about 2 nights worth of work.

The stocks are available from boydsgunstocks.com, look under the Savage section for the stock to fit Stevens. The only issue with them is that they will only ship to Canada if the stock is $99.00 USD or less and of course the finished stock is $129. The unfinished stock is not that bad and just requires a little sanding, shimming of the magazine (.063" aluminum all the way around worked well for me) and moving the forward mounting screw which can be accomplished by gluing in 17/32" (or close as you can get it) dowel into the original hole and then drilling about a 1/4" ahead. I used Varathane Classic Diamond clear satin to finish and would't do it again. Next time I'll use and oil kit like this one http://www.rifle-stocks.com/finishing_kits.htm.
The paint I used on the camo version was a base coat of super-coropond primer ( an aviation epoxy coating) and then zinc chromate green (the olive color, another aviation coating that comes in a spray can) and Krylon barbecue paint for the black. Although I had used an epoxy base the Krylon held on just fine, I don't think you need to get as fancy as to use epoxy paints. WSS in Kamloops has camo kits from Krylon for about $35.
Haven't been to the range yet but a trip is planned for the end of the week. News at 11.

Very nice indeed Yeti. Here's the same stock in "sky blue" finished with polyurethane. Dual pillar mounted, glass bedded. Also a Stevens 200, this one in 7-08

I really like the sky blue, but they were out of stock when I ordered, your gun looks awesome. As soon as they get restocked the 25-06 will get one.

Very nice looking.
I just got the same stock in Pepper Laminate for my Stevens (.243).
The guard screw holes line up good, but the problem is going to be the fact that the original screws are too short for the laminate stock.
Did you guys have the same problem, and how did you overcome it?
I'll be glass-bedding it for sure, not sure yet if I'll pillar bed it. It's going to be my winter project.

Hows it shoot with the new stock. I have one and I am really interested in dressing her up if it shoots better.

Pretty sure you can order the longer screws from Savage.

Other option is pillar bed and cut the pillar to the length of your screws. Materials you could use for pillar bedding is aluminum or titanium arrows as pillars. You drill out the hole a little bit so that your pillar could fit into your stock and epoxy bed everything in place.

I actually only had a problem with the forward screw length. I just drilled the supplied plastic bushing 1/8 " deeper the same size as the screw head.
