Exemptions Gone

he gets it we all get it ... I think what he's saying if the only "out of division" piece of equipment are the 140mm mags .. The RM could at his discretion keep them in standard... but then it defeats the whole purpose of having rules etc....

Bingo 100% :) and of course the loophole only exisits for people who do not declare a Division on entry. Declare a division and bump - you're in open

Ok, I gotta comment on that....bull.

I do sympathize with people having to change equipment. Naturally, I brought the concern that it would chase away shooters to the IPSC execs in hopes that would be grounds to extend the exemption. They obviously didn't consider that enough.

It's over. Move on. If you put the amount of energy into shooting that you're putting into all this #####ing and moaning, IPSC Canada would be able to field a winning team at the World Shoot.

Sean (sorry I edited your post for length there), I do agree with you that the people who have invested 2K plus are not going to throw it away but I do believe that there are quite a few 'recreational' IPSC shooters who compete for fun rather than the chance of winning. A lot of these guys are the guys with the single stacks (who didn't spend the 2K to begin with) and some who participate at the 'local' clubs but don't have the time to compete at a higher level. These people do provide a good degree of revenue to the clubs with their participation. Most don't travel far to compete staying 'local'.

I do feel that bouncing these people to open will put them off, looking for (admittedly cheeky) loopholes in the rules is not the best answer the problem (I admit that) , it is a shame that we cannot create a 'participation' class for L1 L2's which could also be used to attract people into the sport (i.e. shoot what you have, participate, have fun, move up into a recognised Divsion at your own pace).

OK I'll stop complaining now and start practising..

Ahhh, but there is the old arguement, they want to come out for fun, with no chance of winning....but they want to be competitive?
To be honest, most would be competitive if they just dry fired and practiced some.
I shot a level II at the end of last year with my stock Kimber .45 (Custom II) and 8 round Wilson mags. I placed third overall and was 96% on the field course.
For $200 in mags, single stacks can still play.

I never understood why people would by the 140's in standard if they never left the country.
+1 on Pats Post, I love beating people with my 9mm single stack Norinco.

.

You could always make nice with your stats person and say, "I know I was bumped into open, but do you think you could print me out an unofficial stats page with me in Standard so I can see where I would have finished?"

What I think onthebeep is trying to say is at lower level matches is the world going to end if we let people shoot there 1911 single stack with 10 rd. mags. Is this bending the rule yes it is. But is there any logical reason to stop them. Someone trying to shoot a 2lb. Trigger or Magwell in product is trying to cheat by gaining a competitive edge. Don’t think you are going to see people selling there STI/SVI guns to go old school SS.

Sean any chance of arguing for a exemption for single stack guns?
