experiencing slow kills with heavy 7mm08

That bullet really opens up like a ELDX. Ok if your poking them where you should be in the Lungs . Won’t take on much Bone or heavy meat . RJ
That's what I've read up a bit too?..

It would be similar case for the 139gr , it works but not much insurance behind it on the bigger stags,
Different story for the Hinds, but they are a bit smaller an not as dense

Well seems to work broad side facing straight on shots etc. Use the Speer 180 BTSP in 30-06 as well shot multiple moose, elk ,sheep, black and grizzly etc prefer quartering shots on bears and goats take out shoulder and lungs. every one has there own preference and things can go wrong with any bullet. Lots of times its the shooter or shot taken not the bullet that cause the problem.

Yeah this is true,
I've had a 180gr brsp go in the nose and stop at the jaw bend of a sambar stag.. found it a week later still alive an killed it with same bullet thru the lungs!

Tbh after switching to all berger elite hunters.... i will never stray. The bergers just seem to shut them down right there. And accurate as heck. Last about 5 animals have just dropped. Insides are soup.

Tried barnes, hornady and many others but ill be sticking to bergers fwiw.

the problem with your 7-08 is speed
Its too slow and doesn't matter what boolit
shock and primary wound channel make the diff
Go to a 7rm
Ohh and put up with the recoil

yeah thats about it at the bottom line, not quite the pace that many of those 160s are designed for--

nah 7rm wouldnt even kill an elk, an recoil is about 900 on the out of 1000 scale--- hoping to use the 410 solids

I've seen a lot of elk and moose killed with a 7 Rem Mag etc. And recoil is about the same as a 30-06. - dan

Haha disregard.. quoting the other thread..

Seven Mags cool for past 300m more often than not 👍👍
If you have a Rem 7 in 7mm-08 and want to push heavier bullets a little faster, a rechamber to 284 isn't that hard. Feeding may or may not be an issue, and modifying or replacing the mag box for longer coal's is a good idea. I did that on the Rem 600 I rebarreled to 284 some years back. Made for a great high country rifle. Relatively light, but with enough power to reach out as far as I care to shoot, with authority. - dan
