recovered some 308win 168gr eld-m's from bear camp last week, launched at 2592 fps from 20" sako, factory white box match, kid hit a broadside boar at 150 (little over 5 1/2 foot) a bit back of middle, he ran bolt quick and got one in the rear as it lumbered over a lip at 175, it was down but breathing 20 yards over lip, it's the finisher he put quartering away through it we caught (didn't catch the others although the 2nd one likely smashed and never looked inside), so point blank 2560 fps impact, monster mushroom pancake under the hide after going through all the middle from in front of back leg to opposing front leg, peeled right back over a very short tail, about 90 grains left for 55% retention, 1st one I've caught from the 308 eldm combo, then another kid smoked a beauty cinnamon boar at 225 exact same quartering away through the whole middle of bear and looked essentially the same, big ole mushroom but peeled back over itself about half way or a bit more, that bear died on the spot, 2256 fps impact, 117 gr or about 70% retained...
'you can't hunt with match bullets'
hahaha, best things for moderate velocity cartridges since sliced bread, probably even better with more speed, but you hamstring yourself shooting delayed controlled expansion stuff in moderate velocity cartridges, unless you like tracking and eating right to the hole, rapid expansion with enough sd for game intended is where you want to be if faster kills are what you're after
eld-m - 'm' stands for murder, but you can also shoot matches with them, they are 100% hunting bullets lol
