Experimental AR "Full Deck"

The way you have it now the mags will be in the dirt when you are shooting from the prone position - could cause reliability problems and I like not having a mag resting on the ground from the prone...

Man do I ever get tired of hearing this. I've been shooting my C7 with the mag on the ground for over 10 years and I have yet to have a stoppage that could be attributed to the mag resting on the ground. Have you ever shot service rifle? Everyone rests the mag on the ground. They wouldn't do it if it caused stoppages, they'd lose too many points.

Of course in this particular configuration you'd get dirt inside the mag which would cause problems, perhaps that's what you were referring to?

Deckard, pretty cool idea. Nice to see that some people can think outside the box.

Sorry guys, but why give the occasional nutbar who lurks here such yucky info?

I'm sure that there exists on a gunrange here in Canada a real need to spit 40 5.56 rounds downrange in 60 seconds ... but I don't wanna be making small-talk (like "Nice hockey-bag you have there :)")with that person.

... what's with all the ######s around here lately?

To each his own.

I have a few of those LAR15 magazines and I think that they're absolutely great ... and I do appreciate all the effort that the folks at Questar did to get them here.

I didn't mean to offend anybody. I'm reminded of a comedian on a Canadian television show who had a great line ... looking out at all the couples at all the tables he said, "Would everybody here who wants to get laid later tonight please remain seated."

The point? Most of us don't like the idea of drawing attention to ourselves, and I suspect (maybe incorrectly) that a few folks out there might think to themselves, "Hmm ... maybe he kinda has a point."

But, like I said, maybe not.

Sorry if I offended some folks ... it was not my intention.

The hypothetical psycho is more likely to grab a nail and hammer and pop a rivit than he is to go out of his way to buy a pile of 10rd magazines...

Remember - criminals don't care about magazine capacity limits.

Not drawing attention to ourselves got us to where we are today. I think less and less people are saying "Hmm ... maybe he kinda has a point."

I am so lost!!! I am still trying to comprehend and grasp this line of thinking.

Realization

Stormbringer,

I deleted that because I realized (while re-reading this whole thread a while ago) that Seatux's Large Red Capital Letter "message" was a built-in part of his sign-off signature ... not a comment directed to me.

Just what is "yucky info?"

Capacity does not lead to some nefarious intent or activity, nor should it be said to be so. That's LibSpeak, and shows the extent of lieberalization this community has been subjected to. Even if we repeal that bastard law, it might take a full generation to sanitize the minds of the flock. It might even be a lost cause.

Yes but you are STILL a FUDD!

That is the basic problem.

If YOU do not personally do or like something, or see value in it then it should not be allowed. Or so the deleted post would suggest.

My son and I happen to shoot IPSC 3 gun matches. As such the ability to have access to more than 1 round at a time is a decided advantage.

Note I said more than 1 round instead of the lawful 5. WHY?

Well simple.............to some people you only NEED to shoot one round at a time so it is dead simple to OUTLAW anything else.

That is exactly where YOUR logic leads.

That is why it is IMPERATIVE that any ideas such as yours are DAMNED and DAMNED MIGHTY FAST!

There is ZERO logic what so ever to limiting the number of rounds that I can carry on my AR15 or my 15 year old son on his for the simple fact that we are not a threat to anyone or anything. Heck sometimes I am not even a threat to the targets!

Say nothing. Remove your cap and bow as they pass by. Beg their forgiveness for your existence. And don't forget to keep quite. Then, maybe, they will leave us alone?

One of the issues I found with these mags is it's a PITA to find a mag pouch that fits them. If you place them on top of a 30 rounder, with a mag at each end of the 30 rounder, there's space where a small wedge could go between the baseplates. It would be triangular shaped. I'm wondering if you couldn't just cut a small wedge, and then somehow attatch a baseplate to either end?

I'll try to take a pic to illustrate what I'm saying, but I was going to see if a metal shop could produce such a wedge using leftover material. I've got some baseplates on order to try it out.

I guess it would be most like Scotty's design, but having something permanantly wedged between the baseplates to keep it solid.

BTW Scotty what are you using between the mags? Is it just tape?

OK, I have a question.

I am against that type of set up, not because of how it looks or what people would think.

What would happen to the bottom mag feedlips if you had a full mag, but empty in the gun or partial, hit the mag release by accident?

I'll tell you, besides the probable separation of the two mags, you'll more than likely bugger up the feed lips, of the loaded mag, completely.

Also going prone, you'll possibly fill the mag with dirt.

Hard to say. I've never hit the button by accident. I don't think the fall onto the ground would ever dent the feed lips. But I agree dirt would be an issue. I would not rest the mag on the ground.

By the same token, my idea can just as easily make a two mag, side by side, mag feed lips UP arrangement. I did four mags as a concept.
