Explain the CZ-75/Shadow/Shadow 2 to me

I like my Shadow, I really do. I've put on the thin aggressive checker grips, put in a 13# mainspring and cut 2 coils from it, and it's a fun gun to hold and shoot.

But a target pistol it is not.

I know it's no P210, even though it has the slide-in-frame, but I'm not impressed with it's accuracy at 50m.

I'm back to shooting it at 25m, hoping to see some improvements.

Recently, I realized that if I have to sell something to fund another purchase, the Shadow could go without a whole lot of regret.

On top of all that for some time now Sig makes 226s in US. Everything Sig makes in US is obviously inferior to what german made sigs were. Just look at the Legion they released this year, in 6 months after release forums were already full of pictures of finish coming off.

Comparable features and feel of CZ Shadow ($850) are equivalent to middle line of P226 models (elite, mk25 and so such) which is around $1300 mark. 40% of price difference.

Sig does make X-Five line of p226. Which is "sport" line but they are too big for for action sports, german made and way too expensive and scarce. CZs are available everywhere anytime and fit IPSC IDPA whatever.

This is why

I had a shadow with a trigger job for a short while, and it was one of the most comfortable guns to grip I've ever experienced. The thing was laser beam accurate, and just felt great in the hand. That being said, there's very little "meat" to the slide to grab onto. My main interest in shooting is combat/tactical pistol stuff, so that thin little slide just wasn't cutting it for me. It made some manipulations tricky, and I found myself fumbling with the gun at times to do things quickly. I'm also not a big fan of manual safeties on handguns, so off it went for something else.

All of the references here to the Shadow...are they short hand for SP-01 Shadow, or the actual Shadow itself? I find their naming convention confusing.

I have the SP-01 Shadow because it's pretty well all I could find in stores the week I decided I needed to own a pistol. Is it mostly on par with the Shadow in terms of how it'll suit someone new to IPSC?

Unless the guys are actually saying "Shadow 2" or "Shadow II" you can take the term "Shadow" as being the SP-01 version. Up to recently it was the only one outside of the SP-01 based Canadian Edition.

They have 2011/1911 like qualities without the 2011/1911 price tag and not being nearly as much as finicky as a 2011/1911. That said I have shot a couple of Angus Hobdells open guns and while they are awesome 2011s from a shop like Limcat, SVI, Akai Custom etc are just better but you are talking about a gun with a price tag of more than some new cars and waitlists that are year longs.

In the same line of questioning. Why does the CZ 85 get no love?

Because way to many folks feel like they need to love the full length dust cover with pic rail..... If I knew what I know now when I was buying my own Shadow as my first handgun I'd have gone with the 85 and been just as happy.

But I didn't and the Shadow is a darn good equivalent. And truth be told the extra weight up at the nose does aid in taming the recoil that little bit extra.

The biggest issue with CZ guns from the 75B on up is they all are outstanding firearms. The 75B is just as reliable and I would argue for most just as accurate as the Canadian Edition at 3x the price. The triggers are different to be sure and you do get a bit more as you move up the food chain but from top to bottom CZ makes a really decent pistol. The budget conscious and the newest shooter just starting out need not fear he is under gunned going into a competition with his OTB 75B. His experience level and raw abilities will play a much greater role than his new blaster will. CZ's are simply that good.

That said I do shoot an M&P Pro mostly but the reasons for doing so have nothing to do with the gun I use or my CZ's I own.

Take Care

I just ordered one from Angus Hobdells custom shop, sp-01 shadow custom (sitting at my FFL in gun jail, hopefully tomorrow changes that).. And WOWWWW its freaking awesome. My buddy wants to get one too now, or a STI. Hes letting his wife decide lol

Finally got the chance to put some rounds in through mine. First 50 rounds (I know you're only seeing 20 rounds, but my phone camera kept falling off - the first 30 rounds were shot with the same pace). 10 meters. Using el-cheapo Winchester forged steel 115gr. No mods done other than adjusting the overtravel screw and CZ custom long basepads. Target tells the tale. PS: I know my grip and trigger mechanics needs work
