Or could I just build a shotgun like that? Would that be alright?

- Dave.

it appears this works because you take a non restricted gun and modify it using commercially available parts.

if you build a gun from scratch that short it would start life off as restricted.

DO NOT do this at home folks.

If Dlask LEGALLY MANUFACTURES THIS FIREAM IN THIS CONFIGURATION then it is non-restriced. If you do it then it is an altered firearm and would be prohibited. A gunsmith cannot do it either.

Well - if by 'evaded' you mean "evaded by making sure you have all the documents and contacts necessary to address the officers concerns and lack of information, and a plan to deal with his superior if that doesn't work', then I'd agree with you.

I meant the first.:)

they are not manufacturing it. they are taking a pre built rem 870 and adding a commercially available barrel and pistol grip to it.

The barrel is NOT commercially available (when is the last time you saw a 8.5" 870 barrel at your local shop??), it is manufactured by DLASK ARMS CORP. It is the same as Wilson and Serbu taking 870's and modifying them as they see fit and selling them under there own label. There are significant modifications that are done to the 870 receiver/mag tube and fore-end. This is a complete custom build based on an 870 receiver.

The shortest barrel you can "add" to an 870 is about 11.5". Anything shorter requires shortening and re-threading of the mag tube as well as some sort of shortend forend.

Ponts is quite right. While some of the parts may be available and some made by dlask, dlask has a license to manufacture guns and gun parts and can produce this as a 'finished product' regardless of who made the components.

You cannot. These mods can be done by dlask, but not by you or I.

:bsFlag: Yeah really and when did Wilson and Serbu open shops up in Canada

LOL whatever.....

My point was that MANY Custom Gun Makers including DLASK remanufacture and or customize existing makes/models of firearms. To make this point I used two AMERICAN Custom gun shops/makers that ALSO customize 870's as an example.

So what's your point?

Exactly so they can call there 8.5" 870 the "DLASK HIKER" or the "DLASK SUPER DUPER SHORTY" or whatever the hell they decide to call it and they will be manufacturing under a "MANUFACTURERS LICENSE" a brand new custom gun based on a 870 receiver.

ApoC_101 get with the program, we do not have weapons in this country unless used in a crime. Are you a criminal because you own firearms?
Regardless of your answer, don't make the rest of "us" look/sound bad:mad:

hehe, woah now, last time I checked firearms were still considered weapons, you need a weapon to kill a game animal in hunt, and a firearm intended for defense is a weapon (a weapon being a tool used for defense, fighting, or hunting in terms of the tool required to make the kill). I dont see how acknowledging that makes anyone look bad. posessing a weapon does not make you a criminal, involvement in a criminal act makes you a criminal. firearms should not be associated with crime, but thanks for bringing that up. any criminal can use any weapon illegally, firearm or not.

Just ordered one . He has a couple left from this run and if i understand correctly the next run starts in 3 weeks .

Had mine out four times already, just for little jaunts :p (yeah I'm just rubbing it in ;) )
Close to 150 slugs through it now and it just keeps getting better. I have to find the time for a single session of several hundred rounds.

Cheers

can I buy a 12 1/2 inch barrel from Dlask, put on a pistol grip on an 870 receiver and be non restricted?

I don't know. You'd have 'altered' the gun i think. I think it has to come from the manufacturer that way. But - i'm not sure.

I still think it's ok. assuming the first letter is valid.

"The otherwise does not take into consideration replacement with commercially available stocks such as a pistol grip stocks. Thus it is very legal and does not change the class of a non semi automatic firearm if you put a manufactured short barrel and pistol grip on the gun."

if they can do it to theirs I can't see why anyone else can't.

however I'm still skeptical of the whole thing. I want this gun really bad, and in 6 months I'll grab one if it's still non restricted. but I'm waiting off till then to see if this gun turns into another class change episode like the G22.
