F Class Tube Gun build (heavy pic)

dam!, that is a beautiful shooting stick, I am looking at putting together a project with a rem700 S ACtion to make either a 243win or 250rem, and was wonder how much it cost you for the tube gun setting up?

Terry, have you been able to get more of those left handed bullets that worked so well last year?Thought I saw Sinclair was going to start selling them
Should be no problem getting more, my source is reliable. Sinclair is not required.
Are these gun capable of shooting sub-MOA and what kind of goup do you guys get at 1000 yards with them?
Short answer is yes. It is hard to guess group size at 1k, because we have to take turns on the same target. PM sent.

Get your checkbook out...$680 for the tube, $300 for the buttstock, buffer tube, & pistol grip, and you need a Remington short action, and a barrel. The angled scope base comes with the tube. Don't forget the scope.

Takes the stock trigger and spacing is actually better than standard AR15.
I use an SPR grip but will fit just about any that fits AR and as easy to change.
Kevin has his new pricing up on the website (MAK Tube guns)
The repeater kit is very well put together using top notch AI mags.
Tell him I said Hi.
Gord
PS ask him about the new cloned butstock but you can also manage costs by using standard AR stock.I'm thinking of building a carbine version repeater with a collapsible
AR stock ,16" barrel and skeleton forend.See what Kevin did with his
Tube Gun Hunting Pistol!!!!Since everything is so easy to swap out, once you have the
central sleeved action, you can easily change over for whatever you are shooting.
Multiple barrels and calibers are a breeze and with a portable barrel vise you can swap out at the range!!

Oh crap! made the mistake of visiting Kevin's site!
Gonna have to do some number crunching for sure - if I have to own a
700 ( and I do) in Fclass or TR, I may as well shoot a real off the wall rig!!

Cat,
If you're coming to the Nationals in Ottawa this year they'll be some NEW and
extremely different mods on the ones I'm bringing if I can get there.
I still think a shorty carbine is in order for those 100 to 300 matches around here and is in the works.

Terry,
LA when available, will be the thing for a 300 Lapua Ackley Repeater:sniper:
:):):) with 240smk's

Oh and I think I forgot to mention that although these are made for Rem700,they will also fit certain Rem 700 Clones without mods and some others with some machining.
One of the rifles I built on a PGW M15 and fit like a glove. I Understand that a Savage kit is being considered.Let Kevin know as a demand may hurry the availability.

ONT0001, do you have pics of the mods that you have done to your rifles.

How much time and expertise is involved in swapping out barrels?

These look like the ideal set up for anyone wanting to try different options with relative ease.

Thanks

If they could make a tube gun kit for the Tikka T3 that should work out well as you get away from the current issue of the recoil lug in the stock.

It could use existing Tikka single stack mags, slick 65 degree bolt throw and it is already set up for long or short action chamberings.

Check this out, if you want a long action tube gun!!
Now I have something else save for :( :)

If the mods kill this, pm me, and I will get it to you

Maynard had the opportunity to fondle "THE" original tube Gun (Remington 722) at Cedar Springs years ago. It was a 22-250 at the time.

Another of the prototypes was a LA 700 (6.5X.284). The last proto was based upon the very short Model 7 Remington. This action will eject a fully loaded 6.5X.284 round with room to spare.

Everything being proper, changing a barrel on a switch-barrel rifle is very easy. Pop one barrel off, clean any grime from the action, and screw in another.

Even if iron sights are involved, the task is not that tough. At one time I had a Remington at the Canadian Nationals with two barrels. One a 5.56, the other a 7.62. Between ranges I would change barrels, zero the sights for that barrel, and go to the next range with confidence. The main problem was in holding on to that rifle. An old friend from Windsor nabbed it in one caliber and I had to come home with an extra barrel and bolt.

A scoped rifle makes it real easy, especially when it is a so-called tube gun. The main advantage there is the ease of getting a good grasp on the barrel.

I think he ended up getting the .308 bolt back from you (or one just like it) That sleeved Remington is now wearing the heavy Palma barrel I took off my Millennium because the rifle was over weight by 1/2 pound when I went to an aluminum stock. He offered to sell the barrel back to me after shooting a few possibles with it. A real pal he turned out to be. I gave him the damned barrel for nothing:p

I can just hear Artur making that offer..........Bet it was deadpan all the way.:runaway:

Earlier in this thread someone was speaking of a tube gun pistol. Somewhere on disk I have photos of bore sighting the LA prototype before testing. I recall how much it looked and felt like a large XP-100. Sure wish I knew how to post photos, as I took many photos of those early rifles.

Three photos are on the MAK site. They are pretty easy to spot due to having the red DCRA breech flags installed. Those photos are of the same rifle, but equipped for either prone (any sight) or F Class.

Few would believe how much work was involved in those rifles. Everything was machined from solid stock. The anodizing (clear in the case of the original rifle) was a garage operation. That old rifle still shines!

I'm officially gonna make my first precision build a tube gun when I get my PAL. With a 700 action, AR parts, and a good barrel, I should be in the game minus optics for less than $2000, correct?

I think you are a little low. (although I'm not the guy to really say)
Figuring

Rem 700 action $400 for a donor or more for new
about 1000 or so for the tube and butt stock
and $500+ for a Barrel and the smithing.
Plus all the other bits, truing, triggers, extra mags or a s.l.e.d., rest etc. I'm sure Ont could tell you pretty much exactly.

Look in the EE, Ont had one up in 260 if I remember right for 1800ish. You have no idea how many times I've looked at that one and almost pulled the trigger (pun intended).
