Factory 7mm STW

Ya, you got me so riled up I won't be able to sleep tonight......it's kind of creepy the way you follow me from board to board but you are always good for a laugh.......:dancingbanana::runaway::dancingbanana:

Don't flatter yourself... I've been on these boards as long as anybody, and if you haven't noticed, actually try to avoid you. Please don't reply to me in public anymore. Thanks.

Then don't comment on my posts...pretty simple I'd think......:confused::confused::confused:

You started leading this dance!

Back to the thread?:confused:

I believe Remington has sold 600,000 rounds of 7STW and counting. Better not put her out to pasture yet. Somebody must be punchin' paper somewhere?:cool:

Ya, Federal loads for it too and it's been a good seller for them as well....not sure about paper but I know there's a whole lot of hide punching going on!

Seems to me the 8mm Rem necked to .284 would really excel with a bullet heavier than 175 grains with all that powder behind it. I think the only thing available heavier are 180 Bergers and I have heard of 200 grain custom bullets.

I have shot a 7mm STW and it had a heck of alot more recoil than my 7mmRM for approx 150 fps with the same bullet.

The belted mags are falling out of fashion since the Ultra mags and the short mags have hit the scene.

Mine actually seems pretty tame but then it's in a 9 pound gun......although you really can't compare the recoil of different cartridges in two different guns anyhow. As it's faster it definitely kicks a bit harder no doubt.

Why would you want to shoot such heavy bullets out of a 7mm or 284 though? I say let them perform. I love 150s in mine and would love to find some 140s that shoot as well.

I haven't found the recoil to be at all unmanageable, and my 7mmstws produce over 200 fps more than my 7mmremmags with the same bullet.

All I know is our guns are basically the same weight and with the same bullet (175 MK) his STW is obnoxious to shoot compared to my 7mmRM w/ 150fps more velocity from the STW.

I don't want to hunt with a muzzle brake or a heavy gun and because of this the 7mmRM is at the top of my recoil threshold. I am the first to admit that I am a wimp with big recoil!

Recoil is a simple calculation, so add another 200fps and you'll get a few more pounds recoil.......if it's that much worse, it has to be stock fit or some other factor! Recoil is pretty simple physics!

Gun fit, balance, and recoil pad are just as important as weight where recoil is concerned. To do a fair comparison, you need to use exactly the same gun, except for the chambering.

I shoot my 7mmRM out to 1k on paper and the 140's and 150's just don't work for my purpose.

Ah okay, that explains it. I try to keep things inside 500 yards...at least on critters. I've played on steel at 800 yards shooting the 150s and they did well but not sure what would happen if you added another couple hundred yards.....the longer bullets would definitley offer a significant BC advantage.
