Factory 7mm STW

I do understand that rifle fit, stock style, etc, is a factor with recoil. The simple physics tell me that my 7mag with a 175 pill is at the top of my recoil threshold unbraked when I am LR plinking. I don't know how many more ft/lbs of recoil the STW had but it was too much for extended shooting for me.

I do however plan to try 140 bergers out of a lightweight 7mm that is in the works. Again me being the recoil wimp these should not be too bad.

Seems to me the 8mm Rem necked to .284 would really excel with a bullet heavier than 175 grains with all that powder behind it. I think the only thing available heavier are 180 Bergers and I have heard of 200 grain custom bullets.

I have shot a 7mm STW and it had a heck of alot more recoil than my 7mmRM for approx 150 fps with the same bullet.

The belted mags are falling out of fashion since the Ultra mags and the short mags have hit the scene.

Barnes used to have a 195 gr 7mm bullet, don't know if they still do. I used them in my STW back in the late 80s. - dan

Barnes Orginals, one would be lucky to find them now as I think they are only still preduced in a few cals...7mm not being one of them. They were offering freakish weights all in common bullet diameters.....Nothing says penetration like a 180 gr. 6.5mm bullet :D
