The rules don't apply in this case?

If in doubt give Leupold a call and they will help you out. I have called them on a number of occasions to inquire about used Leupold scopes and they have always been helpful.

Leupold USA has been more helpful than Korth. Korth told me an older Mk4 was legit before I bought it, fast forward a couple years and 2 sellers down the road it gets sent in for a reticle change and they say its fake. I got an email from a rather unhappy CGN'er about this. Leupold USA dug deep with pics of the scope and consulted an engineer on a few issues. They confirmed it was a real Leupold. Due to the age (1991) some things didn't jive with newer Mk4s. Korth did not have the knowledge to discern these things. The fact that Leupold USA still has engineers that know a great deal about even vintage Leupolds is impressive. The rep was very proffessional and kept all 3 of us in the loop.

A guy sold the same scopes at the gun show in Orangeville and Markham for $250.
From the outside they look like Leopolds, but the optics are low grade Bushnell.

E bay is full of fakes.
