Fall Bear Hunting

Don't be too critical of Hoytcanon. He is one of the good guy's on here :). Always quick to give good sound advice. Also quick to scold you if he considers your post out of line. We need more guy's like him! I'm a lifelong hunter & I bet be could teach me a thing or two about archery hunting. As others have said, bear are tough critters. Don't compare them to deer. Be sure of your shot & be prepared to do a blood track. If hunting in the evening, be aware of rain in the forecast that could wash away your blood trail. That is a young bear, around 150lbs IMHO. I echo the other posters; bear meat is one of my favorites for eating. Roasts in the slow-cooker are delicious.

Looks like a ittle guy Scruffee. I know you've got the righteous in your ear, and they have a point. But in the end it's up to you. I've shot and eaten a lot of bear. Similar to the other game animals, a younger smaller animal will be better eating if that's what you want. I can't tell for sure with this animal as I seem to find I have to see it moving or at least more pictures to really call it. In a deer bait, these things are a nuisance and keep deer away. Deer will get the scent and not come in. Get rid of it, or get rid of whatever you are using to attract them. I have so many I treat them in many ways like a pest animal, as they destroy my oat fields and cause lots of damage. I've long since stopped admiring them.... Har.
