Fall Bear Hunting??

Well my NB bear license is still valid since I failed to nail a bear this spring. I have heard as far as table fare goes, spring bear is better, what about fall bear?

I may just have to go shoot one.

well in ontario we no longer have a spring bear hunt so the fall bear is all we get to eat.

If you like bear meat I don't think it will make much difference? I've tried both and I can't tell. Once it's made into something like sausage I'm sure it won't matter either. Save a camper, shoot a bear, ANY bear!!!

Just got last falls bear rug back and looking forward to another one or two this fall. Fall fur is much better than spring, atleast with the luck that I have had.

Hide is better in the spring, but I'm a big fan of shooting a nice fat yogi out of a berry patch in the fall.

fall bears have rub marks and thin spots where the hair rubs together......such as arm pits....also bugs reak havoc on their hides on top of that, they stink more

spring bears are fresh out of the winter den and have extremly fluffy and soft fur and clean hides,

think of it in the way of a deers winter fur vs its summer fur....

Hmmmm.... Interesting. I will have to tell that to the fall bears I have shot as they have obviously did not read your post.

Spring bears start to rub and stink like s**t as it warms up. Get them at the right time and both can be good. I preffer fall bear, but hey to each his own.

hey, by all means shoot a bear in the fall if you want, but don't kid your self, a spring bear hide is wayyyyyyy more fluffy, full, long and clean.........

I just got my fall blackie back the other day and it is just as fluffy as the one in the first pic. Maybe it is because in the mountains around here it is colder and they hibernate earlier and need the fur for warmth.

My hunting buddy has a light brown colored black bear just like the one in the first pic and it was also shot in the fall a few years back. Once again just as nice and it was also shot in the fall.



Oh well, whatever.

Its not what I hear regularly.

Granted not every bear is going to have bad fur, but I'd say on average the fall bear is going to have better fur then the spring bear.

BTW, there are not two bears alike. So, your pictures dont mean much. I have seen good spring bears and really bad spring bears, same as with fall bears. But for me it seems late season fall bears are fat and have good hair and are ready for hibernation.

But whatever, here in AB we can hunt both spring and fall and have our choice of what we take. I will take either depending on what I see, I am not stuck on one or the other.
