Pricing is set according to our costs set by the manufacturers. If we could make a profit and sell these for $500 we would, but thats simply not reality. We actually prefer to sell as low as possible, because the lower the price, the exponentially higher the unit sales. It does not make sense to overinflate pricing if your trying to make a profit and keep manufacturers happy by selling large unit counts.

Nobody is forced to purchase. If you don't think it is worth your money than don't buy it -its that simple.

Hey I'm happy you're bringing them in. Personally I'm not about to drop 3K on a stamped steel and plastic gun designed to be manufactured cheaply simply because it's a "tactical" semi-auto .308. There's simply no value there. It's almost criminal the way things have gone on the tactical side of the shooting industry, and it's driven by nothing more than folk willing to fork out almost anything for the latest (sometime not so latest) go fast gear. Leupold recently lowered the price on the CQBSS scope by $1000 due to "production efficiencies", bs if Leupold could find that much efficiency they'd be out of business, they way overpriced the scopes and no one bought them. I think we're seeing the upper end of what people are willing to pay, sorry I'm out, to the rest I honestly hope you have fun with them.

Being manufactured cheaply and being mass produced are two separate things. The Kel Tec Su-16 is manufactured cheaply. The FAMAE SAF and 542 are mass produced, but are of excellent quality. Remember, these rifles are complex, require tight tolerances, have high levels of QC and are procured in small numbers for the Canadian civilian market. These rifles are also not available in the U.S., so FAMAE isn't exactly pumping them out for civilian sales. The low production numbers have more of an effect on pricing than anything else.
 
I saw it and thought it was that unnamed former military gun that I can't own these days.. I will be following the progress on this...

Do you know what famae pays to SIG for licensing rights to sell to Canada? is it per unit? or just a recurring annual fee, or one time fee? Bottom line, how much does it ad to each gun?

Do you know the specs of the piston spring material, never mind all the other materials? Retooling costs to convert to semi only?

I too used to think pricing was stupid, until I was invited on a few tours. Its an eye opener getting out and learning a few things

That's good news, but one wonders if they will be rationed or limited to 2 to a gun or what.

The mags are apparently exclusive to the gun, so no interchange is possible. Also, surplus mags seem to be non existent anywhere.

Plus, Tactical Imports being the exclusive importer won't be importing mags for the X thousand StG 542s already in Canada.

It looks like a good platform for all of the reasons cited in this thread, but the mag and spares situation is vital.

TI is trying to broaden the choices we have for firearms in Canada which is what the shooting community wants and then some people here criticize them for pricing. Want a high-end product? You can't pay an SKS price for it. The 542 is Swiss quality regardless of where it is built.

What makes you think we'd go through all the trouble of importing this gun and not bring in spare mags? :confused:
