Favorite .22 hollow point cartridge?

The BEST .22 varmint bullet I've EVER used is the CCI quik-shok. Just had the cance to go gopher hunting the last few days, and tried a few out. Yellow jackets, Stingers, Federal HP, Win PP, Win Wildcat, Rem subsonic, and a few others.

The quick-shok performed best on the critters by a large margin. Not quite as spectacular as a 17HMR, but just as dead, just as quick. A body shot will turn everything inside to jam, and not even exit the body. Bang, flop. Not so with ANY other 22LR I've tried. Hands down

I'm surprised no one mentioned winchester super-x yet! They are the only round I use for hunting, still trying other rounds but they seem to be the only ones to dependably cycle my rifle every time, maybe because it's such an old gun..... lol:p Doesn't matter how old it is, it still takes out the crows and gophers every time...........:D

Hmm, My SAKO P94S topped with a cheap Weaver 2.5-7 likes most everything it is fed... American Eagle Hollow Point to CCI quick-shok , just dont mix and match in your clip, drives you nuts trying to figure the point of aim...
Quick Shok as the name implies does just that, enters the body of the critter and then the gutz just plop out the entry hole maybe about the size of a quarter.
American Eagle hollow points just plain rip the lil dogs in half, guts everywhere...

Just my 0.02 worth.

Part of this is an exercise in futility since most 22's have a particular load/round that they like better than others. So what works best in one won't be what works best in another. Some rimfires like everything.

As for Win Super X, I've never been fond of it... Lowish power/vel., not very clean, and lots of duds/misfires compared to even the cheap 36 gr hollow point Federal Bulk packs. Once upon a time it was pretty good, but Win cheaped out on it and now its nothing special.

favorite .22 shells

My Sako 78 likes american eagle (Federal) hollowpoints, inexpensive ($15/brick) and under an inch at 50 yards.

I like Winchester Power Points in my Sako P72 Finnscout Sporter. They're reasonably priced, accurate, and kill gophers very well. I shot a gopher at close range, and the Power Point literally ripped the lower half of the gopher's body off.

On the advise of PROSPER I reluctantly sheeled out the 5.50$ for CCI Quick Shocks.
I will say that they live up to the billing for killing power, noticeably more than remington Yellow Jackets.

I still bekieve that the YJ are the best value out there a good combo of killing power accuratcy and price 27$/brick

ww power points are probably the best all round 22 hollow ammo.they are well priced, very accurate and make a very nice pop when they hit.my butler creek 920 10-22 shoots them into .375 at 50 yds all day.all in all ww ammo is the most accurate best priced ammo on the market (my findings).

I like to use the subsonics because sometimes you can miss and the animal will just think a bug buzzed by right beside it.
The CCI subsonics are full 40gr wt instead of the usual 38gr and they have an enourmous hole and flat profile, They cycle my Papoose and Henry lever perfectly and expand to a perfect .36 mushroom in wet newspaper versus the .30 of the Rem Subsonic.

I can scan you one of my 100 yard targets. A cluster of 10 holes that you can cover with a fingertip, shot with CCI Stingers. 3/4" maybe?

I can line up 10 12 gauge hulls at 100, and hit at least 9 of them out of 10 consecutive shots repeatably.

My .22's not really a sporter though, has a heavy barrel & a small amount of custom work.

22's are capable of surprising accuracy.
What kind of gun is it and what mods have been done? Any pics? A pic of some of your targets would be nice also.
