Favorite .257 bullet

Shooting tsx thru water jugs I never had a single one keep any petals going into the 2nd jug. The remaining shank never went straight either. 2 things that went against that advertisement so I never used them on game. I have no faith in the tsx or ttsx in calibers smaller than .40 personally.
I've come to like the consistency of cup and core bullets.

I did just pick up some 87gr tnt bullets to compare to the 75gr vmax

^^^The two deer that I shot, the wound channel was the size of a pencil, through the hide and lungs...........I've should of taken a photograph.^^^

Pencil implies no expansion which I find hard to believe. Tsx bullets penetrate better than most. Broadside exit wounds typically the size of a quarter ime.

I have posted my 2 instances in the past when this subject came up. First time was a buddy, 257 bee, approx. 3400'/sec muzzle velocity, about a 200 yard shot on white tail buck. We were lucky to finally get another shot at him after a long tracking job. The bullet from the initial shot did not open at all and never exited. I have a picture of the bullet.
After this I was hesitant to try them but finally did try 127lrx in my 6.5prc. 120 yard shot on a moose through the lungs. Moose did die, but went alot further than my past experiences with moose. The entry and exit hole was like Track said, the size of a pencil hole. I know there are lots of fellas very happy with them but I stick with accubonds for the most part.

Over the last 12-13 years myself and my daughter have shot over a dozen deer, a couple of bear, 2 moose, a few cougars, and many coyotes with TTSX and TSX bullets. These bullets ranged in size from 100 Grain .25 caliber (25 WSSM), 130 grain .277 calibre (270 Win.), 130, 165, and 168 grain 308 caliber (308 Win, 30-06 and 300 WSM) and 210 grain 338 calibre (338-06).

Some shots were straight broadside through & through and many were hard quartering too or away. None of the animals went more than 50-60 yards after the shot. The cats and coyotes all dropped in their tracks as if hit by lightning. Not a single animal needed a second shot.

Although 25+ kills is a relatively small sample in the grand scheme of things I trust them completely as long as the shot is placed properly.

I was also shooting a 257 Wby. (photograph of gun enclosed) with a 28" Ted Galliard barrel. Muzzle velocity was 3,715 fps with the TSX, very fast and accurate; however, terminal performance was terrible. I've guided many Americans in Alberta, and their experience corresponded with mine.

The old 100gr. winchester silvertips seem to work very well on deer in my 25/45 sharps

I have a few left in my meager stash. Not many other choices on the shelves these days.

The BTs will be next after the Hornadys.

Years back I bought a very large bag of Remington 117 gr bulk bullets. Still have a few hundred left. Good bullets as long as they aren't pushed faster than 25-06 speeds. I don't see a lot of new 25 cal stuff on the shelves. - dan

I had bought some matrix or chimichonga or something like that bullets in the past. They had a unique boattail shape. I'm sure I messed the name up but they were Canadian made. Are they still being made? I know the company was sold at one point. I want to say the owner's name was Marshal? I never used them on game but they did shoot well.

Rebated boat-tail sounds like Matrix. Original owner is a member here.

Chinchaga bullets made a 25 cal, rebated I think, boat tail bullet. A friend of mine shot a WT with one from a 250 savage ai and it died. The jacket separated iirc. These bullets were last being made by a guy from central AB, Ponoka.
