Favorite bear medicine?

Me - Remington model 14 in 35 Rem
Son #1 Remington model 700 in 270 Win
Son #2. Browning model 92 in 44 mag
Son # 3 Lee Enfield in 303 Brit
Can't wait this will be the first year in a while we'll all be together for bruins

Thats pretty cool. I have 3 boys as well, the hunting bug is not strong in them yet. Fishing for sure. That beings aid, they are coming to the lodge with me this fall for the bear hunt.

I've used everything from a 243, 7x57, 30-06, 7.62 Russian to a 300 Win. Mag.

Right now my 280 with 140 grain Federal Trophy bonded tip loads is my fave deer rifle. I'm eager to try it on a bear, but this spring I think I'll try some Remington 175 grain cartridges in the 7x57 at the range to see how they shoot.

If I go out bear hunting this spring, my top choice will be my 6.5 Grendel SLR

I haven't taken my Ruger GSR out yet either, so I may grab that if I'm feeling like a bolt action day.

What no spear?

All my guns will take a bear(black), so it all depends how I feel.

First year hunting bear.

.338 Federal with 200gr Woodleigh PP Weldcores at very close to 2700 fps.

Why? Because it is my newest rifle and I think it'll do the job just fine. :)

The bears I have taken in the past were with my .270 Win. All neck shots and all DRT. Didn't matter what projectile I used.

Is your 6.5 Grendel SLR non-restricted? (Sorry, not up on these rifles)
If it is restricted, you cannot hunt with it! Don't want to see you get into trouble out in the woods hunting with a restricted firearm!

I've previously used a 243, 7x57, 7.62 Russian, 30-06 and 300 WM for bears. My newest favourite rifle is my 280 shooting 140 grain Federal Trophy Bonded bullets. That should work don't you think?

just one 180gr .303 brit has been all I've needed to kill any black bear I've dropped the hammer on. Furthest shot just pushing 200 yards, closest..... measured in feet not yards
Haven't killed any really big black bears but the closest kill (pemberton valley) weighed 310 skinned and dressed on the butchers hook. Looked pretty big too me haha
Looking forward to fielding a .338federal Stag-10 this season though.

Turns out my first two picks are heading down the road to make room for my rare find M77 MKII International .358 Win... so will get my old 225 grain Partition load dusted off and see what it does in this rifle for spot & stalk bears this spring. Last year, my son hiked in to a new cliff face to set routes and ran into a couple draws that green up early and were absolutely covered in bear tracks and scat... this year, he'll climb and I'll hunt... he is also able to spot for me from the top.

Love the 358win,350rem and 35whelen for bears ... moderate recoil and just plain works well. Most reasonable caliber work , but more enjoyable to me when you have enjoyment in the firearm your carrying
