Favorite Calibre for Long distance

I need a do-over, I hit .243 but meant to hit other.
Your thread title is "Favorite cartridge", mine is .223 I think some of it is sentiment because my first bolt gun was/is .223 , it's inexpensive to shoot with good barrel life. The other part is ego. I like to out shoot my "bigger is better" shooting buddies with my little .223
Your poll title is "best cartridge", that I dont know. My .308 is easier to hit first shot than my .223, so it's best for me.
These are the only two rounds I've used for long distance. Because my budget is tight, barrel life plays a huge role for me.
