Favorite Revolver Make & Cal?

Wheel guns are like children, you can't just pick one.

Awesome. I did susPect this will be the first of several. Glad to have that confirmed right out of the gate!

I had been looking at many of the Rugers initially, but with all of these other suggestions, I clearly have a whole lot more reading up and homework to do. This is a good type of homework.

.....my choices as well. Got B) Ruger Redhawk in 44 mag but can't have A) :(

S&W 29, 19, 17. Would love to get a 617, but can't justify $1000 for a 22.

Having said this, my GP100 is a close contender to my 19.

S&W, beware, you have a valid competitor here.

I picked the 629, but right after could be 1st Generation Colt SAA, and a 1940 made S&W Heavy Duty in 38 Special, or maybe a Ruger Old Army 5.5inch SS fixed sight, but perhaps the Colt Anaconda instead, or the tack driving rimfire Hammerli, etc etc etc.........

I own a 4" model 29-2, and it's my favourite. I might be more inclined to recommend a S&W in 357, in the shortest legal barrel. Such a versatile calibre. Not sure why I don't own one.

a) H.H. Harris 5" S&W Model 29. Given the rarity of these, a custom shortened barrel is a good alternative:

b) S&W K-22 or Model 17

Folks, my compliments to all. There is some seriously ###y metal being flashed around in these pictures. Time to start scouring the EE and other sites to find my first revolver to share with everyone. Off to the ads I go!

My Smith's are my favorite revolvers to shoot in any caliber probly the funnest one i have would be my Model 53 Rem 22 Jet Magnum ....

My God, I'm speechless... gobsmacked...

That has to be a Smith lovers wet dream sitting there!

Never allow me into your house, I'd never leave........... empty handed

My first revolver was a 6" stainless Ruger SecuritySix .357Mag. Currently I have a 4" S&W Model 28 and a 4" S&W 581, both are 357 Magnum. I think you can see how this is going....

Any quality .357 is worth having...I have to force myself not to pick up a K-frame Smith [although I wouldn't shoot it too aggressively] or another Ruger, and I'd happily look at a Colt if one came my way. I'm not too familiar with Taurus, but the few I've seen looked decent for the price.

.44 Magnum, same deal but they will be somewhat more expensive to shoot. Few things in life [shootingwise anyway] are nicer than a large-frame revolver firing moderate loads.

Bottom line...my favorite revolver is the Mod 28 Highway Patrolman. They are available with 6" barrels for all you non-grandfathered types, and definitely a prize, what with their pinned barrels and countersunk chambers, wide triggers and hammers.
