Favourite big-ass revolver?

OK, until last weekend I though I was bored of handguns. Then I shot a fellow's super redhawk in .454 :D I GOTTA get me something like THAT! Man, that's a lotta fun. Anyway, I know next to nothing about revolvers.
I'm particularly interested in double-actions. The only big ones I've ever seen are the S&W X-frames and the Ruger super redhawk. I'm leaning toward the 5" S&W 460 for it's ability to digest 454 and 45lc as well, but the ruger 454 is more attractive to my eyes and about half the price.

Anyone else know of any large-frame revolvers out there in .454 or better that I should be considering before I plunk down any cash?

Yes, Raging Bull. it was the first ever DA .454 revolver, I heard somewhere that mr. Cassul said DA .454 couldn't be done, Taurus did it :)

they also come in ..41mag, .44mag (which is what I have :) ) 500s&w and will be available eventually in .460

if Taurus wouldn't have made this gun, I don't think S&W woud've ever made the X frame ;)

Sweet. Alright, I found my Christmas present to myself this year. Hopefully, it'll be more of a 'thanksgiving' present ;)

Never shot one bigger than a 44 mag with a 2" barrel.....very very cool! :D
Also Ruger blackhawk in 44 mag is cool!
 
I shoot a .454 Casull. Have had a Freedom Arms for 15 years, it's the finest built revolver I have ever used or seen. I recently bought a Uberti Tornado in .454 Casull, balance is the same as the FA and quality is also high. I have hunted with the .454 casull for deer and bear. The only things with more power are far larger. I would like to try out that new Taurus or S&W in .500 though.

Wow, I didn't think that a person could move that many 45-70s. Didn't know they were that hot of an item.

As for the biggest revolver, how about one in 600 Nitro? There some other funny lookin' guns there too.

Hmmmm, decisions, decisions.

I'm pretty much sold on the Magnum Research gun, but now I have to choose between 460 and 45/70.

Out of a revolver, both offer comprable power - i.e. ridiculously over-powered. The 460 offers the ability to digest 454 and 45LC. But, the 45-70 - well, it's a friggin 45-70! 'nuff said. Bigger, badder, ridiculous-er. And that's kinda the whole point of a gun like this. And I'll have almost as much flexibility as the 460, with handloads. Although I doubt I'll be able to get it down to 45LC levels - not that shooting soft loads is the point of a gun like this.

Well you could get a dual purpose. They have one listed as a .45 LC which will also handle .410 shotgun shells. There, now you got a new shotgun and a new pistol. :D
 
I read a lot of reviews on this thing, and people comment on the comparison to a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag. With the weight of this handgun, recoil is fairly manageable. Also, it's basically a big brother to the Blackhawk design (transfer bar safety).
Damn, christmas might come early for me this year!
