There are a dozens of US govt. agencies that carry firearms, Postal Inspectors, IRS, Veterans Admin, etc., etc. Court security officers are armed down there too.

Even a few surprises up here like Dept. Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Canadian Wildlife Service. DFO had the S&W 5946 before the RCMP adopted it.

Mail fraud is a federal crime. Tampering with the mail is a federal crime. Yes, they have investigators and they are armed.

It probably came down to pricing. I know the RCMP wanted the P226 really bad, but Sig wasn't going to cut them a deal for volume. So they went with the S&W. Plus S&W bought back all their revolvers.

There are any number of agencies both in the US and Canada that have powers that police agencies would kill for, only most people don't realize it.
 
When US Postal Service used to run Mail sorting cars on trains on US railroads, all the postal employees that worked inside the mail cars were armed with snub nose revolvers. They were mail sorters, not peace officers but they were armed.

This goes back to the days of the armed train robbers and stuck until they eliminated the mail cars, probably in the 1950-60's..

Back in the day, almost all the manufacturers were buying back the revolvers to seal the deal. They would then flog them in the US or wherever as "minty Canadian Police revolvers, hardly used"! One outfit down south would take a 4" S&W Model 10 and lop an inch of the barrel to make it a 3" put a front sight on it and proclaim it to be the perfect carry gun - those were stamped EPS.

I wonder if SIG bought the OPP revolvers, they got a pretty good bid price for their SIG pistols at the time.

Even the finish on new USA 4th Gen suck crap, they don't treat them with Tenifer tough diamond finish, some weak @$$ crap that wears off with mild holster use...pathetic.

Circa 2005-2013 3rd Gens with Tenifer finish are top tier perfection .... Glock Perfection.

I've owned my beloved G21 (twice) , G17 (best 9 I've ever owned), G27 best sub-compact back-up pistol on planet earth.....all 3rd Gen with Tenifer finish...made in Austria
 
Per the SCOTUS..... ALL LE are required to "mirandize" suspects with only a few specific exceptions. Public Safety clause is one of those exceptions, similar to the questioning of Tsarnev during Boston Marathon bombing, however there is a limit to that, it isn't infinite WRT time.

Postal Inspectors however are not reqired to inform union EEs of their Weingarten Rights...basically a term for their rights to a union steward prior to questioning.
Unless things have really changed recently......

I like the Glock as a handgun but I never saw a handgun less appropriate for blanket insertion into an active LE group. Many that will carry won't have the discipline to safely carry a Glock in my experience.
 
Anyone have a pic? I guess they are being delivered as we speak. Here are some of the "new' spec's

The actual changes are:

1. New, "tougher" finish. Similar to the original Tenifer.
2. Different rifling
3. Longer RSA
4. Reinforced front RSA notch - this is the circular depression the RSA sits in on the slide. It's been beefed up.
5. Smoother trigger (similar to G42/G43)
6. Flared magwell
7. Removed finger grooves
8. Safety plunger is oblong/rectangular instead of round
9. Ambi slide release
10. Magazine well cut out
11. Magazines have a slightly extended front lip. This is the front edge of the magazine baseplate. It is minute, and just there to work with the magwell cutout, to help with stripping magazines

Don't you think your ranting is a little over the top considering your only complaint is about the finish? These aren't Wilson Combat 1911s; they're Glocks.
