February Purchases

Klunk ...

As you may have guessed - - I'm a bit of a history fanatic as well as gun buff and militaria collector.....

And since I'm posting again, anyway, here a couple more historical photographs showing members of Canadian Volunteer Militia Rifle Battalions, who were the primary users of these "Short Rifles.

On the left, a Rifleman of the 1870's, with the "Yaghatan" sword-bayonet issued with these rifles affixed; on the right, a Rifleman of the 49th Hastings Battalion of Rifles, while serving with the composite "Midland Battalion" during the 1885 North West Rebellion - note his field-improvised forage cap and cartridge bandolier, both made from feedbag material ...

As members of Rifle Battalions, they wear dark green (or black) uniforms, and their leather accoutrements are black rather than buff ....

Orvis,
I wouldn't mind hearing a range report on your CZ. I've been thinking about one for a while.

Just don't forget your earmuffs!
That ammo has a very sharp and loud report and even more so if you happen to find some Czech M-48 in stripper clips.
The VZ-52 was specifically made to handle that super-hot ammo but I'm sure they didn't shoot it long before going stone deaf!

If it's the same stuff Marstar's selling, I have a whole crate of it coming.:)

I'll probably catch Hell for posting these here. I've been pissing people off all day it seems:rolleyes:

First is a Browning Hi Power, German marked and matching with holster. A great workhorse, definitely seen it's share of the war.

And a 1943 Remington Rand in excellent shape, was lucky to land this one too.

For starters, it likely owes its condition in part to the rebuild it went through - likely in the 1940's.

The 1908's, like the 1909's left DWM and Oberndorf with receivers in the white.

Still though, a VERY nice rifle. I know that rifle too - one of two that HH had put away from back when (I think it was Century?) imported them. He's talked about them on the board before. Nice rifles.

WOOHOO!

Today I picked up a Lee Enfield No1 MKIII Low Mount Sniper!
It's the one I was complaining about missing last month. This gun show the guy who bought it had it up for sale again. It was still a decent buy even though he doubled his money. :( (He stole it last month!)
It is 1916 Enfield manufacture in VG condition, nice bore, nice finish, all matching including the nose cap and wood. The scope mounts are correct and original to the rifle. It has a neat scallop in the forearm to aid the shooter's grip.
No scope...yet. It uses a Winchester A5 scope and apparently the seller has a lead on one. It shouldn't be too difficult to find one regardless, and apparently they were not numbered to the rifle, (as per Clive Law's book) so if I get one from the period I should be OK.
All in all, I'm happy.:D :D :D
Sorry boys, it's not for sale!
