I would just wait and see if they call, they may have changed the way they do things.
Last year when I bought 8pounds of powder and a few boxes of ammo with a free shipping deal they wanted to add a 60 shipping fee on top so I changed it to in store pickup since I wasn’t to far away.

Sorry, yes...I meant if they call to add an outrageous shipping charge.

May be different for ammo vs powder, no? I tried to use Cabelas for powder a few weeks ago and there was mention of potential
extra fees upon checkout and I also received an email with outrageous freight quote..

I know even Tenda ships ammo for $20 flat rate and when I added 1 lb of powder, the premium was an addt'l $45, I cancelled.

Free shipping excludes dangerous goods like ammo according to the Cabela's site. We will see what happens. Still should be a good deal.

1000 rounds of 223 is about the same as 1000 9mm (28 lbs) give or take a 1lb. I've ordered cases of 9mm from them a lot. never been charged shipping. it's the people who are preparing for an invasion that need to worry XD

Well, I at least, have solved the shipping conundrum: if they ship to me for free; perfect. If not, I have a friend who lives a short drive away and who will pick up the ammo, in store, for me. I would just have to wait until a mutually convenient time down the road for a meet and pick up.
