Female friendly beginner pistol?

Trigun, do you own or ever handled the Sig P239?

Dammer, I assumed you were a woman because of your request for a "Female friendly beginner pistol"

I wish I have one brother. But I am not quite a Sig person but I do know that they make good gun for sure. I would rather jump on a Beretta or a 1911 but anyhow I am cheap. Not much green to touch them incase fall in love with Sig:D

Yes, they are very good quality and I "stretched" my credit card to get that Sig. .40 cal subcompact for a carry pistol. I already had about 6 semi-autos when I purchased it and was surprised when I first held it in my hand what a Slim pistol is was.

In fact I went "nuts" with my credit cards for awhile and maxed them out by buying 10 good handguns of unique nature and from different makers and countries.

I haven't wanted a 1911 yet, but do own a .40 cal. Stoeger Cougar 8000 (made by Beretta's subsidiary company). If you want a Beretta, look into the Stoeger Cougar, low priced for a Beretta but the same quality and features. A Great pistol! One of my favorites:

I think I paid about $380 US for it. It is great!

I own a P239 40 S&W and I am less than thrilled with it. It is a well known fact that I shoot Sigs well but they do not tickle my fancy. With this said, two of my fellow shooters love my P239. I would see if I could handle/shoot a P239 prior to purchase. Regards, Richard:D

Unfortunately daddySEAL but these guns are prohibited in Canada. Anything with a barrel length of 105 mm (just over 4") or less is prohibited. We don't have the same options as you have in the USA.

Yes, I also have a CZ75B and love it also.
It is not a "light" pistol though, being full size and all metal. Dammer, I think needs a polymer framed pistol.

I'd suggest going to a well stocked gun store and handling what they have....and ask them about what they recommend.

Rudy H,
Thanks for telling me that. That is weird. You can conceal a full size pistol about as well as a compact, if you holster it and carry it right with the right clothes.

Strange...doesn't make sense to me.

Thanks

+1 on Grouse Man. My petite lady friend handles her CZ-75B wonderfully. Also handles my HK Mk23 just fine too. Ruger .44 Magnum revolver got her pumped as well.

I have a 75B as well and I love this gun, still way too big for my hand and thus not shoot as good as my 686. We have very limited choice of guns in Canada, even walk into a bigger gun store and what we can try is just the common gun model that can sell here.

I was at the range with a friend and his wife last Sunday. She had never shot a handgun before. She is also mending from a torn tendon in her right wrist. She wouldn't shoot anything else but my Ruger MkII. It didn't bother her at all and she didn't have any FTEs or FTFs. She enjoyed it.

Maybe we are off the subject question and would like to hear what he meant by "Female friendly".....and "small grip", or what weight he thinks might be under his idea of "too heavy".

My lady loves(and guts pumped) shooting my Taurus 6 1/2" barreled .44 magnum too....but I'd hardly think it is "female friendly".

Well, I think Cass_GRFH would tend to disagree with you there, and anyone who knows her as well. "Female-friendly" doesn't mean much then. "Small hands" just means they have to grip it a little harder :p

Doesn't that extra weight help dampen recoil and jump, two of the things which would put a woman 'off' a certain gun? Her only complaint was that she wasn't used to the muzzle blast so close to her; she's used to shotguns.

KodiakGhost,
You are right that I don't know the lady in question, just saying that a "Dirty Harry"...."do you feel lucky?" handgun would not seem to be "not too heavy" in weight and recoil, for a beginning female with small hands.

Mine loves to shoot my .40 cal. CZ75B also, but neither is "lighter" than a polymer semi-auto, like Glocks and others that are only part steel.

just my thoughts

a new M&P is just the kind of polymer(not heavy) midsized weapon I was alluding to.

The M&P is quite soft on the recoil side too, I've put a few hundred CF 9mm rounds (which are warmish, NATO Spec) through mine and the recoil was easily manageable.
