Field painted C7/C8s

If any CF troopie painted his issue rifle, he'd be in for a world of trouble. Starting with his Sgt. Maj.
Don't use a palm sander. Sand blast it. Just like RobertMcC and his rifle were.

Do you even have a clue?? SunRay is a term that means something to some people, and I've seen many of your posts. I'm officially calling you out. Reply here, or PM me.

I've never actually seen Sgt. Maj. in writing, although people say it because its a fact, most stick with CWO or MWO in writing...

Where is Watchdog when you need one... eating donuts prolly.

On what term?

"After a couple years looks like it went thru a war zone...Honestly can be brand new and makes it look like ####, worn out..

7 months in Astan my new issued C7A2 was Grey and had no finish left."

I highly doubt that your rifle had no finish left and was grey. Been at two infantry battalions and never seen that on weapons that had been on multiple tours and even spent serious time in the bussel of a LAV.

Don't want to get into an pissing match, so okay.

Cool stuff!
I know the OP is looking for C7/C8 but here's some pics of an AR10 from TF 3-08.

Now I am finally interested in this thread outcome. :)

.....you mean like RSM or CSM if appointed as such? Otherwise, yes CWO and MWO would be appropriate.

I think enraging my TSM (Troop Sergeant Major) by accidentally slamming my C7A2 into the concrete floor directly in front of him was one of my darker days during my infantry reserves basic training.

Thanks all for posting up these cool pic.'s, now lets see some more camo'ed up rifles we love...

Even though this thread was revived from the dead, it took a most interesting turn. Also, the pictures in this thread are very, very cool!

As for C7 receivers magically having no more finish and being grey after a tour... Yeah, unless you apply some pretty weird and strong liquids to your rifle and scrub them nicely with a wire brush, maybe. As a gun plumber that has been to a number of units and done many ATIs over the years I've literally seen thousands of weapons from every unit around here, that have constantly been deployed, and the finish on the rifles, carbines, machine guns, pistols and all the other weapon systems were fine to me. Sgt. Major? Got to say I haven't heard that a whole lot.

As for painting weapons, it's okay on tour depending on what your bosses let you guys do (especially for you recce and other cool doods). However, us gun plumbers do have a nice little tech update regarding this very subject (and I think a CANFORGEN?) since the war is over and painted weapons now constitutes unauthorized small arms modification unless you're actually a sniper. I personally don't knife people for this because I couldn't care less (unless it actually prevents me from doing my job, oh and that one infantry private I saw who used some permanent paint on the inside of his receiver because of his cawadoody fantasies) but I can't say the same for the others in my trade. I normally just tell whoever takes care of the vault but CSMs may not like that if they walk in there and see stuff like that. They can't say I didn't warn them.
