Finally Decided - Benelli M2

I have found the more shooting I do with the 590A1 and the M4 that I am not a huge fan of ghost rings for competitions. The bead sight is much quicker to acquire targets accurately, especially on transitions. I've just gotten an M2 for 3-gun competitions and will be trying it out this weekend in West Virginia. I'll report back on Monday how it worked out!

I'm leaning towards the supernova.. have to find somewhere to check them both out... will try laberons and bass pro....
thx for the advise.

Well, haven't made up my mind yet. Now contemplating the Mossberg 930 JM or the 930 spx-8shot if going semi way.
Maaaaayybe a M2, if I come up with few extra $$ from somewhere, but any feed back from anyone who's shot both and can comment fairly ?

in IPSC, is 8 rnds or more start permitted in Std. division ? or only in std. manual ?

and is better with reg. stock or pistol grip ? and please give reasoning behind your opinion, so I understand better.

its a semi auto so your stuck with 5 rounds of the type the shotgun is made for, so on any of the 3" guns listed above the best your going to do is 6 in the tube, 1 on the lifter and one in chamber for 8 rounds.

if your really looking for a gaming gun in caanda get the versamax 3.5" semiauto...... it is unbelieveable how much you can get in there.

The hang up on capacity is a trap many fall into.
It matters little how many rounds your tube holds if you can't load quickly and efficiently on the clock.
Whatever you decide on...

Avoid the pistol grip.
Stay away from shorty's ... You want a decent sight radius.
Chokes.. You need to be able to choke it...

930JM, Haven't seen one in Canada.
The majority of the Mossberg semi owners I know have sold them and bought benellis
M2 is nice. The Vinci is gaining popularity in the US.
If you want the most capacity, the Super Black Eagle2 or the Super Vinci would be the way to go.

Versamax, I think there is a sale at Basspro right now.
Its a decent gun but needs a bit of adjusting to make it really user friendly for IPSC shotgun or 3 gun.
Less felt recoil than an M2, but its a heavier gun.

The new Beretta 1301 seems like a great gun out of the box, with many of the mods people usually do to their guns, already done from the factory.
Not sure if/when those will show up in Canada.

I know the Benelli platforms well and would spend the extra money to get one over the others mentioned.
You get what you pay for.
Used ones come up for sale once and a while, but usually go quickly.

If you recall your RO course, start capacity for both standard and standard manual is max of 9.
In Standard we're limited by what the semi will legally hold in Canada vs what IPSC allows.

Pistol grip or not, is a personal preference.
I feel the standard field stock is more natural and easier to point than a pistol grip, but that's me.
Also the pistol grip hinders me when I reload, so its not something I would use.

As with any gear selection, there is no right or wrong, just what suits you best and what you can be proficient with.

I have both a 930 and an M2.

The 930 is not the JM version, but one I created my self. I cut down a 28" barrel to 24", put fibre optic sights....chokes etc.. I never had anything break on it, and mine cycled all the ammo I fed it. Unfortunately, not all feed everything......the JM versions included (have seen 4 or 5 of them a various 3 Gun matches in the US, they all had issues). Also, the gas system has to be cleaned regularly......I had mine go down in the middle of a stage......effectively turning it into a bolt gun. I enjoyed shooting the Mossberg, but it is now relegated to being my back up gun, until I can afford to buy another M2 or a Super Vinci!

I have used pistol grips stocks in the past, but they get caught up on everything, and aren't nearly as pointable as a regular field stock imho!

And I said this more than once at the Provincials last weekend "Everyone ends up with a Benelli sooner or later, might as well make it sooner"

The M2 is a well known firearm, with lots of aftermarket parts support, as well as, well documented modifications!

this!!!!

They are not exporting the 930JM to Canada...

I have a Versa Max on the way, with a 3.5 inch chamber...will build it up for IPSC Shotgun

Reg Stock vs pistol grip is personal preference...and can depend on the shotgun. The tang safety on the 590 (not sure about the 930 but I assume is has the same safety) make a pistol grip less than idea...because you have to take your thumb off the grip to release the safety. Also gets in the way for reloading. I had one one my 590 and ended up changing back to a regular stock. And forget about the Knoxx recoil reducing stock...just a gimmick...

so the 930, though overall a good gun, sometimes jams up, I guess due to light loads not having enough Umph to cycle and if dirty, etc... ?
and the Benelli M2 is much more reliable for cycling, is what I'm hearing... O.k. not jamming at a match is important !!

M2 Tactical: 18.5" - ComforTech® - †Ghost-ring - 39.75" - 6.7 lbs.
or as someone suggested, longer sigting and go with
M2 Field 2-3/4" AND 3": ComforTech: 24" Synthetic 45.5" 7.0 lbs...
there's also a 21" now, just added to their website, not sure if available in Canada ?

The versamax has a port right ? so have to be in open div. ?

Crap, so I guess I'll end up with Benelli... gotta sell more houses real f'n soon to afford one..
Just sold my Defender, and may have to sell my 20.ga 1100 (since don't use it) and that'll get me 65% the way there...
Anyone looking to buy or sell house/condo in GTA, give me a call :)

these both are either 3+1 or 4+1, so I guess nordic extension can be available to get 5+1 ? or are those ext.'s only for pump models ?
more $ to spend...no so bad if buying pump, but semi hurt the pocket enough.

extensions are available in a variety of sizes and cost anywhere between $50 - $90 USD, if they're going on a semi, they should be modified so the gun only holds 5 rounds, in the case of the 930, that's five 3" shells (6 - 2.75" shells)

So after a bit more reading and stuff, it seems if one goes with a 3.5" gun, and ext. to fit 5 of those, you can get 7+1+1 of the 2.75" shells, where as only can get 6+1+1 in a 3" set up. This is true ?
And then would it not be advantageous to get a 3.5" semi ? for the extra round to start with ?....as long as its able to cycling lighter loads, of which the benelli, beretta, sx3 and couple other brands/models are good with.

another question, the ghost loading works on all semi's or some not ? if not all, please verify ones it works on...
Are the Berettas really smooth and fast cycling and handle light target loads no problems ?.. I've come across a competition model 1301 - 24" semi.
3 of the popular choices are available resale right now, but not rushing to make decision, as not shooting any 3gun or ipsc shotgun in near future.
I believe that the benelli is best choice as most have mentioned, but pricey...but still on my short list, and the SX3 seems to be great choice and cycles light loads well..and has 3" & 3.5" options
and the 930, if cleaned once in a while, apparently should cycle light loads fine too, and much less coin...

Not rushing to decide, but hopefully soon...driving a bit nuts..

yes you are right about the 3.5" getting you 7+1+1, dig around and you should be able to find the RCMP letter saying it is legal (i dont have it on my comp anywhere sadly)

ghost loading has to do with the bolts and normally if the gun doesnt allow ghost loading you can have the bolt modified to allow it.

no idea about how the guns shoot

'Begs the question.... "Why the f#@% not...?

Not able to make this one coming up at EESA, and then don't know when next one will be ? maybe an ipsc shotgun, if any coming up this fall, but not aware of any 3 gun matches...gotta check this site more often, and I don't go to U.S. for it either, and not likely to now or near future.
