FINALLY done the bench!!!

Looks good. My set up is to dark but has served me for 30 years. Maybe a guy needs to move every 10 years and start over, by the time you keel over dead you will have the perfect bench.:D

I like it!

One of the things I'd rather see, if I were gonna go to that amount of trouble to build a bench with a Formica top like that, would be to use kitchen countertop type backsplash edges. It's a stone PITA, to go chasing after the small parts that roll out over the back edge and fall behind the bench, when the bench is fully stocked up.

Even a bit of quarter round would be a help, IMO.

Nice work!

I had thought about a backsplash however I didnt even have a full sheet of that laminate and there just wasnt enough to do the job. Quarter round would work I suppose however honestly its never been a problem. If i am dealing with any small parts or primers i am working over a sizable towel you can see there by the light to stop the roll-away. What i would do over is put some quarter round on the front edge! If i could do it again tho i would make out of Black walnut with an ash trim around and clear lacquered. That way i am never limited by my laminate supply and i can always add as many cabinets/drawers/counter space as my heart desires :) Future projects!!!

Nice!

Do you have a powder thrower to complete your setup?

Good luck with loading and have fun!

No i dont and probly never will! I dont think i could sleep at night if i didnt weigh each charge on the beam scale. Perhaps one day, but as for now my OCD rages to high for a powder thrower :) Some might say just under throw the charge and trickle to spec, i could do that, it just seems mighty expensive for something I can honestly do just as fast by hand :)

The one I have now has Formica top. Tha last one was wood and I was wiping up some spilled powder and caught a sliver from one edge. When the doc was finnished removing the sliver I had 6 stitches.

Ouch! That smarts just reading about it.

It's been a while, but I seem to recall some static electricity issues, for example the balance scale might be go off zero due to electrostatic repulsion, or spilled powder not cleaning up easily. I"m sure your new top will be great & no slivers.

That would definitely be a benefit of formica!!

Anyone have thoughts about height of bench top? I was looking at an old design and noted that the top was 42" + 3/4 ply. I have been using my woodworking bench which is only 32". Found it too low, so blocked the press up to about 42", which is better. Think I may try a bit higher too. (I'm 6'1").
I work standing up, so far, but also wonder about using a stool.
What height bench and stool works for you?
