That is said of the Glock too.
I have a 1911 also but also a Glock in .45ACP. In my mind these two pistols are similar. Both were designed for defence (as in military sidearm)and both have great reliability. That can be said of few pistols out there.
Both are the most ubiquitous (and well-known) pistols in the world and that says much about their dependability and function.

OK here is my 1914 Colt. Just Picked it up Tuesday Night.
There have been a few thing done to it, but I'm good with that.

It was quite common, certainly in the 70's & 80's, and even up to the mid 90's to "rework" vintage Colt 1911 & 1911A1's [and other contract makers of those pistols] into, target, bullseye, IPSC etc pistols. That's just how it was. And there's still lots of them out there today.

Years ago I belonged to the Naniamo club and when I first started bullseye shooting bought my first 1911. It was an unused parkerized issue that I purchased from a Colt collector and shooter in the club by name of Jerome Harrison. Another handgun shooting club member and gunsmith, George King did an accuracy job on it and that became my first centerfire bullseye gun. Later I sold that and purchased a Gold Cup which I used until I decided I 'needed' a Walther GSP, then the Gold Cup went. A short while ago, I got the opportunity to purchase George Kings personal 1911 1A that he had accurized. I got a few trimmings with is, of which one item is a Bomar rear sight George had bought for it. He decided he didn't like it and made his own. A very talented man. He had been a tool & die maker in England during the war and took up gunsmithing after he retired. I'll shoot it but the primary reason for purchase was sentimental value more than anything. Sorry for the lengthy trip down memory lane.

Wow! Don't check your post for a few days, and ya got some reading to do. I haven't taken possesion of mine yet, as I'm waiting for the paperwork, but as soon as I get it, I plan to have a box full (is this enough) of cartridges to cycle through it. between my model 19 S&W, and the 1911, I now have both of my favorite handguns. I don't plan on debadging it, as I don't have anything against the Norinco name, and it's an indicator that it is made out of very good metal. Also, it is what it is; a well built gun that is built to keep running. I was holding on to a buddies Sig 1911 last night though, and yes, there are some small quality differences, but not $1100.00 worth. I'm thinking that I'm gonna use the Berry manufacturing 230gr FMJ, pushed by unique powder, as I can use the Unique in my 357 as well. Too bad that the primers are a different size. I have now joined the world of case chasing.

I'm going to see my buddy in Pittsburgh tomorrow, he's got a small (17) collection of 1911s of very, very good quality - so good he's been invited to exhibit his collection at National gun shows.
We'll be shooting 3 of them - the rest are his safe queens. I hope to learn a thing or two. So far, I only have a single 1911 - an STI Trojan. But this count will change, I'm sure.
