Looks like you have the perfect eye level for using the tech sights.

I was going to do the same to my chinese sks, but I sold it.

I really like the Monte Carlo stocks! Heres mine, I just need to cut out the stock for the bayonet. I may ditch the red dot for Tech sights too. What did you use to cut the stock for the bayonet?

OK, I am an SKS noob, but I really like this rifle. I would like an sks for the cheap ammo. I see that you have a larger mag. Could you do this with one of the chinese rifles from marstar or is this a different style? I know I could read 100 threads about it, but I am too lazy. I am left handed and if I could put that stock and a short clip along with the pinned larger clip on a stock sks along with a removeable scope mount for hunting, I would be pumped.

Beautiful job btw!

not a fan of the SKS but if I caould have this one, i could change my mind

One of my friend did it for me...
He made a custom jig aligned with the barrel and cut the groove with a router.
Then he finished the radius by hand ( with a chisel ).
I must say my friend have gr8 skills in wood working but he told me this is not too hard.
He also told me you gotta be very gentle and take few passes... Don't do it one shot !!!

The groove is a bit wider than original.
I discovered that my bayonet is bent a little bit so it add some stress on the barrel in the original stock but not in this one.

Black laminate is nice too !!!
If you want to use techsight you will need to make some *room* behind the action...

How was the fit of your Monte-Carlo stock ???

Those mags will fit all SKS except SKS-D wich use AK mags...

I needed to trim a little off the front of the stock to make it fit, maybe 1/16", other than that it fit great. I also had to file a groove into the magazine where it meets the stiffening bar in the stock, the mag was hitting and wouldn't clip in. Now that it fits nicely I am very happy with it. I'm 6'5" so I needed a better/bigger stock to make it comfortable to shoot.

My stock have required a little more fitting than yours...
What is the year of production of your SKS ?
Mine is a 1955-56 so its a third gen. gas block and I guess thats why it required more fitting... Maybe not :p Dunno !!!
But like you said fitting is done and I'm really happy about it and how it feel...

Yeah the extra length on the stock make it more comfortable.
Even with the bayonet, the balance is really improved. You think that ???

Here is a pic with original stock and unpolished bolt at the moment...
Some people will like the *cachet original* :D

Mine is a 1951 Tula. Still heavy but more balanced now. I will see how it is with bayonet installed.
