Finally took the 7mm-08 plunge!

I got my first 7mm-08 about 30 years ago or so (788 carbine), ammo was a lot thinner on the ground then. Not a problem, set of dies, some 308 brass, and away we go. Eventually I had enough actual 7mm-08 brass that it didn't matter. As an after thought, a box of original Remington ammo in this caliber, back when they used the Hornady 139 gr bullet because they didn't have an appropriate one of their own, gave me the single smallest group I've ever had with that rifle. Astonishing for factory ammo, and made me a 788 fan from then on.

As to the WSS issue above, you can brand the clerk for not knowing about 338 Win Mag (although, going by your writing, are you sure he understood you? No slight intended, sometimes accents are tough to get through), but the handgun locking business IS THE LAW. You want to be mad, be mad at the Liberals. - dan

I do agree with everything youre saying about the law,
What i'm saying, his the total lack of customer service
When they called me in the morning, they only asked me to bring my ATT,
Customer service is very important in my mind, and by the fact they probably volontarely forget to mention about bringing carrying case, and proper locking device, goes against my idea of service.
BTW, i order it @ Marstar, and save 70$ ( Federal agent discount ) shipping included and no brainer of locking .
As i dont lived with ( might ) but by rules.
In this case, it was pretty basic rules, called : Information /Customer service.
I dont want to steal that post, i'll stop here.
I love my 7mm-08, I reload and use Lapua 308 brass.

A lock is required to be on the case and the gun of any restricted in transport. The salesperson was right and you were in the wrong. He might have saved you from losing all your guns because of a silly mistake.

Remember that Canadian firearms legislation is far from common sense. You may expect something to work a certain way, but eight times out of ten it won't, because some bureaucrat with zero comprehension of firearms made up the rules by notion. Remember even after you get a permit, a range membership, an ATT for every place you take it, and lock it three ways, that the Liberals and NDP are still trying to ban it and take it from you.

I guess that they just expected you to know the law, and to do what was necessary to comply.

As a customer, regardless of whatever youre doing, whoever you are, you should have the same service.
Is it write in youre forehead, what youre doing for living?
Personnally, i'm a Mr Nobody, i dont feel the need to tell anybody what i'm doing for living.
Thats exactly what im saying: If they expect everybody to know the law, and let them do what is necessary to comply, Its a total lack of service.

Its one of the first very basic rules: Information.

According to what youre saying,
Everybody should have a tag on the cap, saying their name, job, income, hobby, adress, status. And according to this tag, provided the information you think is usefull.
Is it really youre way of thinking ?

You said you are a federal agent,...

what is it that you do?

Thanks

I love my 7mm-08, yes i reload.
Went @ wholesalesports this morning,
Asked the guy, what he have in stock ( ammo ) for a 338 Win Mag.
He answer me - Whats that caliber ?, never heard of it, probably have none of it in stock right now.
Very annoying when i can see them on the shelve from where i'm standing....
BTW i was there to grab my new ( pistol ) 45 acp,
-They called me, because it was ready for pick-up. ( Order completed and paperwork)
They asked me to bring my ATT.
-Once there ( 60 minutes drive ), and 30 minutes of waiting and finalize the order , i was heading for the cashier then:
The salesman asked me where was my locking device/
-As far as i'm concerned, the pistol is lock ( trigger/slide ) in the carrying case, why do i need more?
- He tell me thats the way it is, and refused to let me go without a lock on the carrying case, even if everything was perfect ( ATT....)
-He should tell me that when he called me this morning?
-He offered me to buy a case with the appropriate locking device and a padlock for 40$
-I already have plenty of those in my place, and as i'm at 100km*2=200 km.
Conclusion, No 338 WinMag, and i tell them to put the &?? pîstol deep somewhere very specific.
Store/saleman are not bible.

Always best to take a gun case and trigger lock with you when you go buy a restricted firearm, to comply with law. Your ATT likely has it written on it.

buddy, you missed the greatest cartirge of them all.. the 260 rem. its a shame we can't rally around this cartige.
and pls shut up about transporting handguns this post was meant for the title the creator desired it for, take it elsewere

Finally got a chance to break-in the new rifle, bought some Winchester shells and made sure to keep the brass... Very pleased with the recoil and feel of the rifle, heck, the groupings weren't that bad either!

Best part is that a fellow CGNer and outstanding gentleman contacted me to tell me he had an extra LH CDL stock laying around!

Here's what she looks like now, complete with Warne rings. The Bausch and Lomb Scopechief is on there temporarily for load development. I'm planning on topping her off with a Redfield 2X7 soon. As an attempt at a budget LH Model 7 clone, this SPS/CDL amalgam doesn't look all that bad.

I wouldn't dump that scope so quick. ;)

I had just a matte 2-7 x 33 on a 7mm-08 BDL for many years, that was an extremely durable and accurate little scope.Very reliable and consistent. It was responsible for much game over the years and gave me great confidence in my rifle and myself.

As for the rifle, it's a dandy looking unit.

IMO Because there are WAY too many different caliber choices on the market and many of them all have similar ballistics and performance and price.

Eventually anything not "common" is going to fall of the radar to a point, similar to 7mmWSM and others.

why is the 260 not more of a choosen choice amoung all shooters young and old.. its a wonderful catrage n i love mine
