Finds in the bush thread

I was in one of those areas way back on crown land where you think you’re the first person to ever stand there, then going through a clump or cedars I stumbled across an old steam tractor. One of the ones with the metal wheels and little flat paddles that stick out. Half rotted into the earth.

Not really unusual but I found the remains of a camp out spot waaaay back in the bush near the western border of Algonquin. It was at the base of a large rock cliff and I never would have found it if not for a partially rusted blue tin that caught my eye while glassing from the bottom of the ravine. As I walked up to it I noticed the rock wall actually protruded out providing overhead cover and a large triangular chunk of fallen rock had landed about about 5 feet from the wall which made for a nice sheltered spot. As I looked around I noticed the tin, an old empty wine bottle, fire ring, and a a metal grate. What startled me however was when my eye caught a ragged lump of fabric in the corner...was just an old rolled up sleeping bag that was deteriorating but for a split second I was thinking it was worse.

I went back there a couple years later and had real difficulty finding the spot. Turns out the blue tin had fallen from its spot and without it, the location was just about invisible until you happened upon it. I wondered what the story was - obviously the person who put the stuff there planned to return some day but never did.

Deep in the bush in wmu 328 I found this boulder which displayed someone’s thoughts on our current prime minister.
I edited the first letter but I’m sure you can figure it out.

You should apply to have that made into a Canadian Historical Site!

Found a bowling ball in the middle of a hardwood bush about 5 miles from nearest road. Everyone couldn't believe it and figured it dropped from a plane...

Few years later I find a 7foot tall winnie the pooh stuffed bear sitting in almost the same spot....WTF I almost shot it from a few hundred yards away when I first seen it....until I figured out it was wearing a red shirt LOL...everyone couldn't believe it again and had a good laugh....

Few years later I find a neon green snowboard and snowsuit rigged up on it like a scarecrow almost in the same spot again!! Well now I know someone is screwing with me....

Next year at camp one member said he forgot something he was supposed to give me....weird I thought....then he says well you enjoyed my gifts I left out there in years past LOL

This crazy old bugger would bring this stuff with him on the quad then walk it up onto the hill in the middle of the hardwoods so I would find it....he knows it's on my trail to the next cut lol he always wondered how long I had the scope on that big bear before I figured out what it was haha

Lol he trolled you over an entire decade, that's EPIC Laugh2

Found a nice shortened 1 1/2 pound Swedish made axe in a loging slash that a faller must have cut down to trim branches and limbs. Great kindling hatchet.

While it’s a little on the light side it’s probably some fallers axe for driving wedges, 3-3.5 lbs is the standard axe head weight. You’d be surprised at how many get lost or set down and forgotten in the timber. The head taller I was working with lost one recently and I somehow managed to find it as I was hiking up to steal some gas from his kombi can, he was pretty happy I found it.

He recently found a newer iPhone in an otter box up in the high timber we were glading, up around 1500 meter elevation, some skier likely lost it the season prior lol.

Lots of old overgrown homesteads around here.

Foundations, rusted hand tools, kerosene cans, bottles.

You walk through what feels like a deep dark forest to realize that a family once lived there.

Kids played, gardens were planted then one day they packed up and moved on.

I'm not a religious or superstitious guy but sometimes i swear i can feel them watching me.
I just make sure to respect the place.

This grave isn't in the bush. Rather the prairie. There isn't a house within 5 miles of here.
Cecil Heffernan was 13 years old when presumably his family buried him here in 1915.

I work in the bush and literally look for old stuff for a living so I feel like I'm cheating here...

Tons of old timey logging stuff from around the province from various eras.

Last year I hauled some plow equipment next to an old trapper's cabin a couple k's out of the bush. Guessing it was used to break the land around the cabin but I have no clue what it was.

"Stupid stuff I've carried out of the bush" would be a better thread for me lmao.

if its stupid stuff then the dumbest thing was Hydro insulators i found below a Tower.

I was about 12 and they weighed about 50 lbs

hauled them about 1/2 mile and they felt like they weighed 1,000 lbs at the end.

They spent the next 30 yrs tucked under the work bench at the back of the garage

My dog found a new Groham hunting knife (pheasant model) in tall dry grass while I was hunting for pheasant down by Brooks one fall.

I gave him an extra treat for that one.
