Finn Gun

I have 2 finn counterbored capture 91's and an m39 sako all are some of the best shooters i have and dark original stocks.

Well thanks guys you have given me a whole new rifle to enjoy! tis hunting season now but come the misery of winter I am gonna try and get her looking more like she should. I have no doubt that this rifle will shoot very well and I would'nt be adverse to taking it for a walk in a field during deer season.

I am wondering if thier are any special stock adjustment/relieving/bedding that the finns employed to get the most out of these rifles?

Still have'nt taken the stock off to get the pic of below the tang but I will.

Thanks again for all the info

Finnish bedding seems to have been pretty good originally, but I have slathered a little Acraglas into a couple of mine to tighten them up just the way they were when built: wood DOES shrink over 60 or 100 years.

Make sure that the barrel is free in the channel, no pressure pushing it to one side or the other.

Some of the Finn trigger jobs were also very nice, although most MN triggers seem just awful. You can do a lot with a stone and some oil. Just analyse the situation carefully and take your time.

By the way, the MN cartridge is just about a duplicate, ballistically, of a .30-'06. It WILL flatten a deer or a moose. Bullet selection and shot placement are the keys.

Most important of all: have fun! That's what we're all here for, anyway!

finally got it apart to answer PerversPépère's question about under the tang. Sorry no pic yet left the camera at the hunt trailer.

Under the tang, to the rear of the screw hole:

T or hammer (OVER)
914 'backwards' 7

Under the reciever ring is a circle with 4 hash marks at it's perimeter and the numbers 789

Thanks again for all the info.

Receiver was made at Tula Arsenal in 1914 and rebarrelled and restocked by the Finn in 1926.
