Picked up what looks to be an ex-police HK P7M8.

I was thinking of saving up to get it nicely refinished. Was looking for something extremely corrosion resistant, chip/scratch resistant, and cosmetically appealing.

Robar's NP3 plus coating in the USA really appealed to me, but I don't know of any easy way to get my firearm there and back.

Current options I've found in Canada include the following:

1) Cerakote - offered by a few sponsors

2) Nitron Blackening - offered by one sponsor

3) TiN Coating -

4) Hard Chrome - not sure who offers this

Right now I'm looking for other possible options. Leaning towards the nitron blackening, or some sort of Nickel-Teflon coating similar to the NP3 plus (don't know anyone who offers it).

Does anyone have any experience with any of these finishes?

How/would you refinish an HK P7?

I wouldn't refinish personally but if you were set on it, hard chrome for sure.

Teflon finishes do wear - the teflon is actually clear, but the colour does visibly wear. TiN is gold - did you want a gold coloured gun? AlN Aluminum Nitiride is a dark grey/black colour and transmits heat well (P7's could use that). If I was looking for specialty coatings for a firearm, I'd call Tac Ord - they do a number of different types of coatings and nitrides, Teflon, Cerakote, TiN and AlN.

Thanks for the input. I think the TiN would be too flashy for me.... Is there any way to get a darker chrome?

The finish right now looks to be a plum colour that I hear is common on some HK firearms.

I called both Dark International and Armco yesterday, only Dark International is still doing chrome plating. Is there anyone else in Canada doing chrome finishes on firearms? Nothing against Dark International at all, just want to assess all the options first.

Just an FYI, TacOrd can do the "HK Black" cerakote, I found the mixture online, and I'm sure Peter can figure it out.

Dark International does a good job. Just be aware he doesn't chrome some of the small pieces due to worry about hydrogen enbrittlement.

Love mine, the plan is to get some Nil's grips to go with it, but I haven't got around to it yet

A site sponsor brought in a bunch a few years ago (armtac maybe?) you had a couple of different choices in finishes.

Does he coat the lower frame and front cocking mechanism?

Yes. Just a few levers inside that he won't coat. All major components are coated. My P7M8 had blue finish which literally wore off in less than 6 months of routine handling. It looks much better in the satin hard chrome.
