Well, last year(April 2008), myself and my father took the firearms safety course, and we both passed. The instructor said that the max it would take for our papers to come in the mail is 30 days. And now, it's been how long, and we still have yet to recieve the papers in the mail. My dad has phoned in to figure out what's going on multiple times, and everyone he gets ahold of says the instructor should have sent them out. And blah blah blah maybe he's slow. You'll have to phone him and ask. Well, here we are still with out our papers. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do over this matter?

Yeah, you take the exam, the instructor grades you in real time on the practical, then after that he grades your written. You pass, he fills out the paper work in front of you, tells you that you have passed, congrats.
He then tells you to make a copy of this piece of paper, and to mail it along with the other things that you need (application, photo).
You get the photo, photocopy the piece of paper that says you passed, and the application, mail it express/registered/something better than normal.
Check online everyday to see status, and should be up within a week.

Farboy, first what province are you in? I think the process/time might vary ever so slightly depending where you are but I'm not 100% sure about that.

In Ontario, you take the course, the instructor sends your passed exam papers out for a background check. This in itself can take 3-4 weeks just to get a copy of your exam back. Once you have your exam, you make a copy and with it send out your PAL application to the CFC. It takes a minimum of 28 days before your application is processed, and YES can take up to 3 months even 6 or more depending.

Hope this helps.

There not doing a background check at that point. The CFO wants to see your papers to ensure your course was administered by an approved instructor. Then they stamp them and send them back to you.

Application Received on: 2009/01/26

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Hehe finally

Maybe your instructor's dog ate the papers.

You must be in Ontario where the CFO need to personally bless your exam results. Everywhere else you take them home with you after the course.

Myself and my dad both have taken the tests, and gotten the results back. Myself got 100% on the writen and 98% or 96% on the practicle (touched the trigger once). And my instructor said that he'd mail us and the RCMP or what ever a copy of the papers, and then the RCMP would issue the license.

And I'm in Saskatchewan i took my exam in Pilot Butte.

Okay, but what do i do about this? I still don't have any copies of the tests? Haha, i got my dad to phone the instructor, and he said he shipped out the stuff again two weeks ago, but here i am still without anything.

The instructors told me the RCMP does a background check before issuing the stamp, but I agree it is moreso to ensure there is nothing fishy about the exam papers. That part took me 3-4 none-the-less (here in Ontario that is).

Farmb0y - I can't believe it's been 10 months... holy crap, how many guns do you have on hold everywhere? :D

hehe

I'm not sure I understand what is holding things up.

I wrote my PAL test when they were introduced, the examiner gave me the paper saying I passed, I filled out the application form, supplied the photo and sent it all in. Got the PAL after several weeks processing.

Three weeks ago I challenged the RPAL, the examiner gave me the paper saying I passed, I filled out the application, got two references and my spouse to do their bit, took the picture, sent all the stuff in and they got it on February 9 and online they tell me that it is being processed.

So what step in procedure are you at then?

Are you saying that the examiner didn't give you the signed statement that you had passed?

The way I read this thread is that you expected it all to happen automatically once you wrote your exam.

Like I said, I don't really understand the question.

Did you send a completed application in to the Canadian Firearms Centre?

We're at the stage that we're supose to recieve a copy of the exam results, and were're supose to get the paperes to apply for a PAL, but nothing. I expected to get the results in the 30 days, like he said to the whole class. But yeah.

That's a long time to wait. Like I said, when I took the test, the examiner gave me the papers right then.

But that was one-on-one both times. You said you were in a class?

Should have taken the guy one day to do that.
