Firearms restrictions being proposed in Alberta.

Yes, but not during the day, while you are in the car, driving on a logging road.

Even at night, your case doesn't have to be locked...

no, in fact the reg actually reads to the effect of 'in a case or wrapped in a blanket' so as much as it blows, it could be alot worse.

hope you guys get on this. ill send a letter as it could affect my possible tourist dollars if i ever go west for a hunt.

I bet 90% of hunting is road hunting.... This law wont affect me.

When you are going out hunting,do you carry your ammunition in a separate locked container?Unless you do,it will effect you.

I have already e-mailed my concerns to Mel Knight, and I am hoping that other forum members do the same.

I have sent my concerns to both Mel Knight and my MLA and I strongly encourage everyone else to!! This won't disappear on it's own! We already have federal transportation laws and that is enough!!

Another swift statement outta ya. Imagine that. It will eventually effect you; no man stands alone when it comes to rights.

Up until this I thought common sense prevailed in AB til now. If this is true I'll be unsupporting AB beef for a long time. It'll set a precident we do not want, anywhere.

Let me know who I can write to and a letter will be on it's way. I'm fairly likely to come to AB to hunt in the next few years so I want to do my part to beat this amendment down.

K first off why the hell would the beef producers table this one? They dont want coyotes around out here. Its shoot em on sight...sounds more like a blame game to me...An if it was during hunting season and you were out hunting....Nope sorry officer I am not hunting but going over to my buds place to do a little target shooting...now prove different eh!! Thats why my guns are uncased and unlocked...Sorry officer why am I wearing camo? Its warm cozy and comfy and all my other jackets are in the wash right now...prove different eh!!

Some laws or ppl that propose them are so stupid...only in Alberta...but b4 I send any letters out we need to see a copy of this proposed so called law...or a copy of what was brought forth...

Something no one's mentioned yet.... If this was put in place you can say good bye to partrige and pheasant hunting in Alberta. The birds won't wait patiently while you stop, take 2 different cases out, lay them on your tailgate, open them, get stuff out, put it all back in the truck; you get the idea,
And then what? You get pinched and lose your hunting priveleges or guns because there's a loose .22 shell in your glove box? Count me out.

Not sure why they would even consider something like this. Gotta say, we don't truck hunt; I simply love being out hunting, but quite frankly much more crap like this to worry about and I'll be hanging it up. Maybe that's the idea?
Push everyone out of hunting in AB who isn't willing to pay to go on ramp friendly properties?
Something reeks on this one.

You could, I don't know, get out of your truck and walk? Maybe get a bird dog?

Well, with all this steam blowing out of peoples ears.....has ANYONE actually seen a printed copy of such a proposal?

If so, would someone please post it?

that sucks, you didnt' mean that did you?

I dont want to, because it is BS, like all gun laws, but in all honesty, the amount of road hunters is retarded... guys driving around with a gun in their lap shooting from the roads onto private land...

the law states "maintained roads" does it not?

you can still drive and hunt in the bush, but cruising the gravel roads blasting at whitetail in the fields will come to an end. I dont mind that.

Then pass a law saying you have to be off the road when you fire. or for real problem areas, that you can't fire within x number of yards of the road. BC has laws like that.

But don't fool yourself - if you start letting them dictate how your firearms are carried and ammo secured you're going to get in to a world of trouble.

Remember - it WILL affect you. Because you'll be driving on those roads to get to your areas. So - you get pulled over and now some cop is going to 'decide' if your gun is being carried properly or if your ammo is locked up properly, and if for some reason you forgot to lock the case or it came undone or whatever you're going to face charges. Did you forget one round in your jacket pocket when you were finished hunting? Oh dear - that would be a violation. Did a round accidentally roll under your seat at some point? Uh oh - you could lose your guns.

You need to think of how this will work a bit more before you say it doesn't affect you.
