Firearms restrictions being proposed in Alberta.

Just read on another site ( so take this as third party gossip only until someone can confirm it!! )

that this proposal died at a stakeholder meeting april 28.

AGAIN: this is third party information...Do NOT take this as fact until someone in the know can confirm it.

You are correct, the proposal was rejected.
I received this email from ABP.

For your information, following is a summary of the decision made last week by the Alberta Game Management Advisory Group.

At the Alberta Game Management Advisory Group meeting on April 28, 2010, the Wildlife Sub-Committee proposal for transportation of firearms and ammunition in vehicles during big game hunting season was considered and, not surprisingly, rejected. All members present at the advisory group recognized that the practice of illegal road hunting is not only unethical, but also is a serious issue for livestock safety, land owners, rural residents, and fellow hunters. No further consideration will be given to the transportation of firearms and ammunition proposal, but all members of the advisory group, including the government members, agreed to go back to their respective groups and return with other possible solutions to help deal with this serious issue.

The Wildlife Sub-Committee now considers the matter of their proposal to be closed. The matter is also closed from an ABP perspective. The proposal was an idea from a sub-committee and never was ABP policy despite the repeated and sometimes malicious attempts to make it appear that way. Since the proposal will not receive any further consideration by the advisory group and never has received consideration or approval from ABP, the organization sees no need for any action other than informing stakeholders about the advisory group decision.

Now that we know ABP is our enemy we still need to monitor these guys activities. Don't let them off the hook too easily. They never retracted the proposal, they took it to the stakeholders and it was slapped down there. We need to make sure they never do anything this stupid again.

Yes -- withraw to the rear ! > I particulrly like the part of:

"....never was ABP policy despite the repeated and sometimes malicious attempts to make it appear that way....."

Like we have said - internet can be a tough gig. They got exposed and then they ran for cover when people began to ask hard questions.

Third response from ABP

I got the email as well.

I'm glad cooler heads prevailed at their suggestion, but the fact remains that they did NOT retract the suggestion.

Why would they want to attack a group, who by definition are meat eaters?

I need to take a minute and think about how I am going to respond to Ricks email.

I recieved their e-mail today.

This is the part I don't like...

"all members of the advisory group, including the government members, agreed to go back to their respective groups and return with other possible solutions to help deal with this serious issue".

What will they think of next? Why can't they just enforce the laws they already have now? I really want the NFA and CSSA to be an "advisory group" and have a seat at all the meetings. So how does a group recieve "advisory status"??? Heck, why can't we be an advisory group, too? It's a free country is it not?

You guys better nip this one in the bud like RIGHT NOW. Get the Alberta Wildlife Assoc involved, write letters, get the word out to politicians that this is a BAD THING

Two words Alberta gun owners, "Wildrose Party."

Some one out there needs to get this to the leader of this party and spank your farmer premier real good in the media.

I'm also afraid this is far from over.

The response tells me it's more a case of, "damn, they noticed", than "boy was that a stupid idea".
The tone of the writer tells me he has no intention of letting this rest. He now sees this as an "affront" to his "power".

So seriously, Watch, Please. This ain't over, and they'll be a lot sneakier next time.

Huh weird, I never did... Maybe he didn't like my tone so he figured he would take me off of the blanket email list.

I can't imagine you used tone in your message. No way.:p

So is there a way for us to represent the hunting crowd to get some better proposal on the table. ie giving the Co's some serious clout to deal with offenders the first time.

Folks need to seriously throw some crap at the fan when they see binky the clown swing the barrel out his window. I know it isn't the popular thing to do BUT the future of our sport depends on it. RAP is our friend.

As to the comment on whether it is really that bad, trust me it is. The new officer in Sundre wouldn't call the area the poacher capital of Alberta for no reason. :(
I'm so honored.....

Anyone have any solid info/source on this, other than a quote by the OP with no evidence to back it up?

Not that i dont believe yall, but i need more than a 1 sentence quote with no source if im going to spread the word on this.

why would the beef Producers care or even have a say were the firearms and ammunition is in there car or how its locked up ????????????????????? i guess the corporations are running the goverment now ??

You have to remember, we're not really talking about ranchers or farmers. We're dealing with an "association". Wether or not those signing the cheques have ever been outside of a city in their lives is not certain. Nor are their long term motives, but I'd lay money it'll involve ramp and who you make your cheques out to down the road.
If something smells fishy, all you need to do is follow the money to find what stinks. The tricky part is to see the true long term goal of the organization.

I said it before and I'll say it again, it smells just like the wheat pool, and it stinks to high heaven, so keep tabs on it, or else bend over.

What a group! You howl like crazy because you don't like something :runaway:and then when it goes away you can't let go.:)

Here is my take:

Some people in the ABP had a kind of misguided idea to address a problem they could see. And as they have a seat at the advisory group they made it into a suggestion to bring to the meeting.

Many clearer heads at the advisory group did a thumbs down on the idea. END OF STORY.

You can now sleep at night guys.
