When some one asks me what to get as a first auto, I always say CZ75 or better yet a CZ85C.
Second place would be a M&P9 (Not a Glock Fan, had a G22, didn't like it, just preference)
Third place would be a BHP, but those are kind of pricey for an entry level acquisition.
Nothing wrong with a norc NP29 though. Had one and it functioned great!
Had a Norc Sig 226 clone, didn't like it. Just preference.

Trying them out in live fire is important. Not always possible but will give you a better idea of how it will feel in use. PPQ M2 has really impressed me, as well as the SFP9. I tried these out recently and really like them. Nothing wrong with Glocks/M&P 9s either. Personally, I like my 226 Enhanced Elite and CZ shadow but I'd pickup a PPQ M1/M2 if I had the extra bucks. Magazines are more expensive and harder to find though. Not a big deal but a consideration if total cost is important. I'd say try them out and then try them out again before making a final decision.

+1 on this. I ended up with the Jericho after finding a solid deal at a LGS. If you go that route try and find the range kit with three magazines...OEM magazines are about $50 a pop and people report mixed success using the not much cheaper CZ magazines with them. You also get a holster and mag holder (the holster is meh). Outside of the slide safety I love it.
To pile on with others, CZ is criminally underrated and worth looking at.

Haha, nothing against Glocks or polymer handguns but the CZ line up is just nicer. I've shot both cz's & Glocks and I own a polymer handgun (m&p). But the CZ were so much nicer, cz85 combat is what I'd buy next for sure. Then a glock, then a.... Lol.
I used to shoot IPSC I started with a cz 75 and spent many dollars making it into a race gun, then I did the same with a colt 45. Also used a glock a little. They are all great. Now I have a cz 75sp o1 shadow this gun needs no work out of the box. The trigger is great it has ambi safety, beavertail to prevent recoil bite, heavy all steel which decrease felt recoil, all in all the best out of the box pistol. You can spend money on a glock out of the box to get it where you want, its harder to shoot accurately due to trigger but if used as an only pistol you can get good with it. In my opinion the cz wins if you want to shoot and play various games. For a carry pistol I would have a stock glock.

Had a Pre-B CZ75 for almost 30 years, 25K rounds and still dead-on. Changed a couple of springs (mag springs replaced) inside because... still have the old ones as backup. Have a new CZ85 just as nice, cannot go wrong with CZ. NOTE: had to cold blue the slide of the old one 3-4 times due to holster wear (IPSC & now ODPL/IDPA).
I've never really looked closely at the CZ offerings (just quickly handled a few at the LGS). They felt good in the hands but kinda looked like a Volvo (if that makes sense).
That said….the more I look at this model the more its growing on me. I'll be interested in finding out if they're available with a "fixed" rear sight, full dust cover and no external safety. I just heard my credit card moaning….
