first AR15 NEA15 / Armalite / savage / springfield armory ???

Hi guys,

I'm about buying my first AR. I have 4 model in mind:

1 - NEA15 + Aero Precision 5.56 Nitride Bolt Carrier Group = will it solve the cycling/extract issue?

2 - Armalite Light Tactical Carbine

3 - Savage MSR 15 Recon + upgrading the trigger group (review says it's the "main" weakness)

4 - Springfield Armory Saint


I dream about an Daniel Defense but I'm a poor guy :(:(

Let me know which choice should be "better" one according to you.

Also dream of DD, in more ways than one, but I myself have a NEA Carbine. I haven't had these cycling/extracting issues but perhaps I'm just lucky. I feel it was very worth it's cost and I've put in a few hundred rounds through it, which I know isn't enough to get a great feel for it.
It's very forgiving and very easy to wield, and I've been having fun with it.

My 2nd pick would likely be the Savage, but that just comes down to personal preference on that one, as well as the .223 Wylde chambering. I don't know enough about the Springfield to comment much about it, but it seems like a solid, fairly-priced rifle.
 
I've personally witnessed thousand of rounds through a Mossberg MMR Tactical/Vortex combo this summer. Neither the gun, nor the Vortex Strikefire it came mounted with have missed a beat. The JM pro trigger is also really, really nice. I'm not sure you can get a better gun for 14-1500 bucks. I know it's not on your list, but it might be worth having a look at.
 
Personally, I would include Anderson on the list. Not everyones cup of tea but I kinda like their stuff but from your list, I would chose the Savage. I don't own one but I like the proprietary stuff they have on their rifle. Makes the rifle stand out a bit. I certainly would not be looking for a savage hand guard for a custom build which could both be a good thing or a bad thing.

Have you considered a build. I have a lot of fun building these rifles. They are easy to put together and extremely customizable. I have just finished building a $3000 rifle which is cool but I found its sister build more fun. Almost finished and that one is coming in around the $600 mark. It functions and looks so much better than a M&P15 or MMR or any entry level factory rifles and cost less. Lets face it, if you know you are going to upgrade your factory rifle anyways, might as well start with a build.
 
I went shopping for an AR, had a few to choose from, and weighed the option of building... but in the end I chose an M&P15 (slightly used aka <100rnds through it)
my reason being I wanted to get out shooting, cheaply for now, and enjoy the gun.

for <$600 I was out shooting, and for approx $200 more I have it where I am happy with it (red dot, front quad rail & vertical grip & cheap flashlight)


If/when I realize what I wish to improve, or "need" to improve I can either; upgrade this one, or start collecting parts to build exactly what I want.

I am not expecting this to live for ever, or be perfect, but I'm able to enjoy the sport NOW, and figure out what the future versions will be.

I see your selections listed however what is your maximum budget for rifle alone?
 
Look at CORE15. Mine has been a very good rifle since 2014 with 8k-9k rounds of all kinds shot thru it. Very nice rifle.

I'd personnaly skip on NEA/BCL

yeah they looks great but I'm not fan of "round plastic handguard" and core15 with aluminum m-lock is 2000$+
 
Keep in mind that you can upgrade things like the handguard down the road. If I were you I would spend money for a better quality gun now and do the upgrades (like handguard) as you get extra cash. Take a look at the Colt LE6920. True North sells them for a decent price last time i looked. Not much more than your asking.
 
Why not get a S&W M&P 15 for 700 and spend the rest on ammo or upgrades?
You've got a budget of 1250, now what exactly do you want your rifle to be?


I highly recommend against NEA/BCL. Literally the worst rifles ever made, so bad even Iraqi's were dumping them.

It will last you around 10 000 rounds before you need a new barrel. :)

up to date no one talks about the armalite yet...
