The forearm and the pistol grip I got for the CZ are from palinak at vz58.net. The rails I got from Ebay and bolted them on.

Are you doing it the same way? Also, do the handguards on the restricted version fit on the CZ 858?

The restricted I'm working on is a Stag Arms 2R. Almost done:D

Leonidas, It's a low SVD mount and rail. The mount measures 7cm from the bottom to the top not including the weaver rail.

It is centred over the bore. The rail has been thickened by welding a 1/4" ( aprox) piece of steel to the rail, this serves to centre the mount over the bore and clear the mount from the ligtening step on the side of the reciever. The reciever does not have enough meat for it to be tapped, it is paper thin. The thickened rail is tapped and screwed on from the inside of the reciever with button allan head screws. It's a very simple job to complete.

The mount is rock solid and can be atatched and detatched in five seconds.

I think if you want the right tool for the job then this is the only way to go. It improved my accuracy no end.

So by butting the rail up to the sheetmetal on the reciever you were able to get it relatively close to bore sighted? Or did you have align it with a sighing tool?

It was close when I butted it up against the side of the reciever as I had roughly estimated what thickness I would need it to be beforehand. I had to file the back of the thickened rail down a little bit to get it right. I did it by eye, I think a bore sighter would probably save time.

These are nice looking VZs people. I'm planning on getting one for myself now that I've got my RPAL.

I'm interested in refinishing the entire gun, as in stripping off the paint. Are these guns constructed from steel or aluminum? Now, if I were to get the gun parkerized or anodized (depending on construction of course) do you guys think that would have a negative effect on the function of the rifle? Would some parts become too thick or too thin as a result of the new coating and cause malfunctions and the like?

Is it worthwhile to mount a kobra above the action such as on the kalinka mount?

Sure it is if you can find a gunsmith to do it for you. There was a CGN-er who did that and mounted a red dot, an aimpoint clone. That is what I initially wanted to do but then I got lazy and did not want to bother getting ATT's to go to the smith and make holes on the side of the receiver. I opted for the quick and painless Palinak option ;)
