This noob needs some help!
I Am looking to purchase a NR black rifle my wish list includes.

1 .223
2 accurate to 300yards.
3 will use to blast gophers and coyotes.
4 stress relief at the range.
5 next year hope to try some 3 gun matches.
6 budget is $3000

Thanks

XCR-L, MR1, Tavor, T97, Is pretty much all there is. Read through the threads in this forum. It has been discussed plenty times in different ways.

I would suggest the tavor!

I give it an hour till cr5 and ntm are telling you how the acr can shoot into space and is the worlds best gun lol :D:stirthepot2::

I normally can overlook the look of a gun for functionality and accuracy but man is that MR-1 ugly as sin, I'm a big XCR-L fan lots of people use them as a coyote hunter and even afew deer hunters use them....although a friend of mine swears by his Tavor but man do I love my XCR at the range for blasting away some stress

3 grand easily buys you a Tavor. It also apparently buys you an ACR with aftermarket barrel so if accuracy is tops, may as well grab the one on the EE. Tavor trigger isnt necessarily something you wanna take on a hunt.

Keeping in mind you're gonna want to spend additional bucks on accessories and optics, a used XCR is the bargain choice.

Well at least you gave us all the necessary infos to make a suggestion, most just say they want a Non-restricted AR.

Here is a list of some of the guns you may be interested in.

Tavor
ACR 18.5" conversion
XCR-L
FS2000 18.5" conversion
T97NSR (I recomend putting on or buying one with a FTU and LHG when availible)
Ar-180B
HK SL8
MR1
Su-16

These are the ones that fit your criteria that I can think of off the top of my head, but there may be some I am forgetting about. The ones I have listed are top to bottem, most interesting to least.

The Tavor is a great NR black rifle because of its compact size, the ergonomics are amazing, and all of the weight is in the rear making it VERY easy to shoulder and keep shouldered. This makes for a very handy truck gun, 3 gun rifle, or blasting pop cans and hitting gongs gun. While commonly suggested that the Tavor is really inaccurate, (some say 4-6moa) others such as mikethebike did a very comprehensive accuracy report and found that certain factory ammo will bring out 1.75moa. The trigger is the only real downside. About 10lb stock. $400 will get you a cream of the crop 3.5-4.5lb timney though.

The ACR. While others like cr5 will be along shortly to tell you it has NO drawbacks, I will tell you this, I found it VERY front heavy, likely due to the barrel change system. Dont expect to hold off hand waiting for a gopher to poke his head out. If you go this route you may have to buy a restricted one and rebarrel it for about $550 to get the NR status if you dont buy used off the ee. Do expect 1.5moa with handloads.

The XCR. If you choose this route, I strongly recommend the new keymod generation. I fondled one at the calgary show and could not believe how light and sleak it was. Old generations were big, bulky, and front heavy as well. The ACR really needs to follow this gun on the weight issue and go keymod.

The FS2000. It will need rebarreling but you will have one amazing-little futureistic-lazer-beam-shooting-storm-trooper-star-wars-rifle. Belgian Engineering, need I say more?

The T97NSR. Only get one if you intend to have the T97.ca FTU put on and the LHG once available. Handy rifle, but crappy ergonomics. The price is right for what you get.

AR-180B. Not to familiar with this rifle. Has a polymer lower that tends to crack, also is quite expensive and rare.

HK SL8. Made to be a bench rifle. HEAVY!

MR1. Good if you want a black rifle that really doesn't really feel black, but tries to be. Kinda like that one white kid you knew who always tried to act "hood" but grew up in a wealthy suburb. It just feels fake.

Su-16. CRAP.

Hope this helps, but this is just my opinion, make your own choice what works for you!

Nice review of the listed rifles!!

Awesome info thanks guys !!

Looks like I am leaning XCR-L or MR1.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have pretty much enough for an xcr saved. But keep thinking for just a few hundred more I could get a tavor and not have to worry about problems. I want to like the xcr soooo badly. I tell myself I'm gonna buy it but then I look at the problems section of the xcr forum and I change my mind lol

The hk sl8 is arguably the most accurate. Plus they can be made to look like a g36 but you'll have to sell the farm to get it there, and it will still be heavy.

A month ago I was in the exact same boat as both of you. I ended up going with the keymod XCR-l and it has been problem free! I love the thing, Tavors are wicked cool too. Just want to put my experience with the XCR in there. Also if you look at the XCR forums the problems seem to be almost exclusively with the older models.

Very true. Maybe I should just give it a try and not look on the xcr forum lol. In my opinion. It's one of the best looking rifles out there.

Just a few points to add to onetwentyish's list. The SL8 is probably the most accurate of the bunch with the MR1 second and you did mention 300yd critter shooting. The ergos of the MR1 will suck in 3 gun. Although I wouldn't touch an SU-16 with a 16 foot pole, they are very light if long walks are in the future. I have an SL8 and find it shoots about 1.5 MOA. I seen the odd 1 MOA group from it. I have seen cr5's ACR shoot some MOA groups as well.
