First gopher

Went out again today to a buddy's relatives area. Not many to be seen as the grass was long, and these gophers were way more shy than others. They wouldn't show up closer than 100m if you were around. Had 25 confirmed kills.

Still searching for the ultimate field.
Try the gopher call you can get at Wholesale Sports. They work pretty good at getting them to pop up for a shot.

you dont need to spen $20 on a call, just take a fired .22 case place it up to your bottom lip and blow across teh top almost into it and it will make a high pitched squeek that works well.

pasture land by far. Anything that is cultivated or "groomed" is usally something the landowner doesn't want you walking through let alone dumping empty casings in. also, the wheat/canola etc etc tends to grow quite high quite quickly providing excellent camo for the little buggers. pastureland is definitely where the majority can be found. YMMV

Go around the edges of the cropland, and you'll find the gophers there as well. And likely some bare spots in the field where they've been eating. The farmer will be very happy you've killed those ones.

Hey Throttle I am talking to my neighbor today ... - if you want we should split a classified Ad in the local paper here, I can find out how much it costs. As you know I am not far from Gull Lake - so I'll do some reasearch for us.

I have no pics but I can tell you the 17 hmr will knock them down hard at anwhere from 50 yards to 150 with no trouble. (hornady ammo). One at 50 yards rolled for quite a distance. The bullets seem to fragment quite good and do not exit.

The 22-250 goes through them like butter but is great for 150 yards plus. I'll try to get some pics the next time I go out.

Actually you know what I'd like to see is the difference between a gopher whacked with a .17hmr and a .223 and a .22-250.Anyone?
I think those are the different calibres they use in the Dog Be Gone videos. You can tell the 17 when they shoot it because you hear the 'whizz' sound of the bullet. Best way I know how to describe it. The first gopher hit on the A Sample Humor Segment is definitely from a 17, the other two are most likely from the 17 also.
