First gun I bought was a well used Winchester Model 12 shotgun with a long long 30" barrel, 1970.l. It was on a rack with other rifles/shotguns (no lock!:sok2back by the rakes/shovels, etc in a Field's store, small town B.C. I picked it up, took to cashier. Gave the nice lady $95 cash( don't recall having to show any i.d.I looked over 18), got a receipt, taped receipt on barrel. walked out the door. walked 2 blocks down main street with said shotgun in hand. Nobody seemed too excited, just a young hairy, fat logger with a shotgun. Put it in my old VW and went home. Shock and horror.... nobody got hurt.

Probably the last gun I'll buy was last week. a nice old lever action . Showed my licence, nice nutter shipped it to me, and now it's home.

The best of times and now the worst of times.World sure was a dangerous place back in the day. I feel MUCH safer now with the progress we've made.

I remember back it the late 80's the Canadian Tire in Brandon selling AK's and the Cage at SIR in Winnipeg selling RPK, HK91,94, Daewoo, but I don't remember a lot of gun crime like there is today. Funny how that worked out, gun bans yet gun crime is out of control now. Bought my very first 9mm at SIR, P85 Mk2 bought it had it approved and took it home the same day. Just like the CFO's use to be at gun shows to approve restricted purchases so you could take home the same day. Oh how times have changed through the years for the worst thanks to Liberal and Red Tory Federal Governments.

And I, for one, will not be part of the people responsible for the collapse of firearms retailers and gunshows.

Anyone who says they wont buy another gun due to the new regulations isn't by-passing the problem, THEY'RE ADDING TO THE PROBLEM.

Let's all keep our sport, hobby, culture, obsession, whatever.... by supporting our industries, clubs, and friends by readily purchasing that which we desire, moving forward.

It's not refuse the system or avoid the system..... It's use the system the best we can while doing our part to change the system.

Let’s all celebrate our pre registry purchases by detailing them online :dancingbanana:

I’d love to pretend that I’m so ideologically pure I won’t buy any more guns under the current legislation but that seems wildly unlikely.

No. When I start seeing all these stores actually pushing back against these constant attacks instead of just saying "welp that's just the way it is boys" then maybe I'll consider buying a firearm from them under these new "rules". They want to stay in business in today's firearm industry in Canada, prove it.

They should prove they want to stay in business by violating the law and losing their business licences? You think any of them support this?

You're dense eh. I said they need to start pushing back. Read.

Simmer down hotshot; save it for the government. I’m sure you’re pushing back with all your might.

With 6 e.e transactions in five years I’m sure businesses will really be missing a big spender like you

just reminiscing, sheesh didn't intend to set anybody off.

cou:just looking back. I'm going to stick to my reloading room, the range, and the bush. Folks are bit too heated up these days for this old guy.

vaya con dios!

I miss the casual gun buying days of the 60's & 70's. Bought my first centerfire rifle (Lee Enfield No.1 Mk 3 sporter) at a trading shop in downtown Victoria in 1970 for $16.oo then carried it for a about a block back to the car wrapped in brown paper. Nobody gave a poop about it. Nowadays in our hugely overpopulated world full of weasels & ratfink idiots, we gotta be stealthy in how we move our firearms about. Fookin' sick times we be in.
:(

First gun I bought was a Cooey single shot 22 in 1963, the last was a Gamo Varmint PAL air rifle last week for reasons I still don't understand. :)

First gun back in 2014 was a Stevens 300 22lr bolt action. I had no idea what I was looking at...I barely knew the difference between center fire and rim fire. It was very reliable and a solid little beginner piece but wow did it have a heavy trigger. I also was not very accurate at all. Last gun was a Stevens 300 22lr bolt action back in 2014. Some guy named Mike McNaughtrcmp from Canmore bought it a few years ago. He said he owned and operated some sort of business dealing with boats or something? He showed me his PAL and we did the deal. I do not own any boom sticks currently.....cough...cough.

My very first purchased came as a set, 1967 Canadian Centennial set.
A 308Win Remington 742, with a gorgeous Ruger 10/22 with beautiful finger grooved walnut stock, used they were.
As promised when I had purchased them, that if I were to sell one the other had to go as well to keep the set together, to which I kept my promise.

As for a last purchase, well I’m still very much alive yet and haven’t made that final purchase yet, but keep looking I do.

Edit; Memory just kicked in, forgot about the Mossberg 151K (I think it was) that was my very first purchased, then the Canadian set second.

I had a similar start,In 1970 I bought a M 870 12ga 30'' full kicked like a horse but I loved it, lost my drivers license so I caught the bus and the shotgun was in a gun case and no one gave a ####.

Not dead yet so I am not done buying.
