I'm considering the HK MR223 or a higher end AR.

Not for any particular reason or application other than general purpose range use.

For those that have handled and shot the MR223, what are your impressions compared to a high quality AR from KAC, Noveske, PWS, etc...?

FWIW, one reason I'm considering the HK over the others is that I can get my hands on one within a couple of weeks, whereas the wait for the model(s) I want in the brands above is indefinite at present from what I understand.

TIA.

If you don't already own a couple of AR's, save your $$$ and get something like a Noveske or LMT. If you do, or just want the H&K, then go for it.

While the H&K is definitely a nice AR, the price/performance isn't as good as something like a Noveske (you pay almost twice as much, but the AR isn't twice as good). Law of diminishing returns really.

I'd like a nice Gen 2 Afghan but there's no telling when they will be available.

There are a couple of Crusaders currently in inventory at Questar but they are (a) the Gen 1 lower and (b) the 12.5" barrel and I'm after a 14.5 - 16".

It will be my first black rifle in ~20 yrs. The last one I handled was a C7 in 1993 as a CF reservist.

One of the best ARs out there and piston driven to boot.
If you have the means to afford one, it will serve you well.
Exceptional HK quality that are very accurate.
They are second to none of the brands mentioned above.

Questar has a number of LMT's in stock, both the standard Defender models, as well as MRP models. Check them out. I'm currently running an LMT, and it's been great.

While the H&K, HK or what you guys called them, is NOT an AR ........This start to be like the guys calling the lowered Civic a sport car. And you the guy with the answer to this go get that MR223 upper and drop it into your AR lower. The day it works will start calling MR223 an AR. Plus no s***t mixing here but most of the guys collecting posts on this forum they read a lot about the HK but never touched one.
So to the OP if you can afford it get it. There are no guns or weapons as the HKs. BTW this is “my 2c” and not looking to start a debate.

Good point, thanks. I'd overlooked the LMT MRP. That could be a viable option for sure.

Beltfed and Sigboy, thanks for your input as well.

Talk about diminishing return. The LMT is a $1500 rifle ($2700 CDN)????

The HK is $2700-ish ($4300CDN)

Obviously one is a high-end Rifle. The LMT is just too overpriced here.

But Seriously guy... Get the HK if you can afford it. I spend my time slapping together over-priced parts building AR's hoping I will wake up one day and find they have transformed into a beautiful HK>

I was just on the LMT site and I couldn't figure out which model that Questar was selling for $2650.

Is it this one?

That is the one. $1890 msrp. But some stores sell them for under $1600. Import your own through one of the sponsors above. Prophet River I believe

Once you start thinking about it. There are lots of choices when it comes to 'Higher End' Rifles. I was joking about the KAC.

HK
KAC
Noveske
LMT- (medium high)
Wilson Tactical (maybe)
even some LaRue OBR's might show up.
