First hand impressions of HK MR223?

H&k

From what I understand, the H&K223 does not have a chrome lined barrel or chamber; as well, the dust cover is plastic. I'm not too thrilled with an untreated barrel, so I'm out. Apparently, the military version the H&K416 is chrome lined, but they thinking civilian would prefer not to have chrome lining.

While the H&K is definitely a nice AR, the price/performance isn't as good as something like a Noveske (you pay almost twice as much, but the AR isn't twice as good). Law of diminishing returns really.

i own LMT's
i own a Noveske
i own a MR223

the HK is worth every penny... its a beautiful work of art and shoots like a dream. i also love my LMT's and Noveske but i will never part with my MR223. Its the same with the KAC SR25, its super expensive but an awesome piece of kit.

the MR556 does not have a chrome lined barrel, the MR223 does. I cant be certain about the dust cover on the MR556, but the MR223 is metal...

I've handled the MR 223 but have not fired it. It screams quality and is piston driven instead of DI. However, it feels very solid but heavy. If weight is a concern and you're going to hang all kinds of stuff on it keep this in mind. It weighs more than some of the other guns.

On the topic of specs, I can find very little MR223-specific information other that bits and pieces I'm cobbling together.

Where can I find the detailed technical data? The MR223 isn't listed on either www.heckler-koch.com or http://www.hk-usa.com, and only a brief summary here: http://www.hkjs.de/default.php?dat=...1bj10cnVlJmhlYWRlclBpYz1oZWFkZXJfbmV3cy5qcGc=

I would buy the MR308 for that line of battle rifle and the SR15/15 KAC for a 223 rifle.

The MR223 is great and I own it, It is an awesome rifle, but it depends on what purpose you want to use it for. I have a S&B short dot on there right now with an extended rail and Harris bi-pod and I love that setup.

But I would get the KAC SR-15 11.5 first and the MR308 if i were to do it all over again.

The MR223 is a beautiful rifle and the performance with higher grade ammo is awesome.
 
The plastic cover is actually preferred. It won't bend. If the metal one is bent, it won't stay shut.

The thing is pricy. For people who complain about unlined barrel, it is no different from bare stainless steel barrel. As long as you stay away from tropical jungle and avoid swimming up river bank or doing seaborne insertion, I don't think it will make a difference even if the zombies come.
 
While I respect the HK, I don't think it is a good value. I would personally go with a PWS. I know they are long stroke vs short stroke but the money saved could be used towards NVG or something else cool when the zombies come. If you could get it the LMT short stroke MRP would be a better buy IMO.

A follow up on this thread - as much as the H&K was calling my name, I just pulled the trigger on one of the in-stock Noveske's from Questar.

Noveske - 12.5' Crusader 5.56 Rifle, VLTOR VIS monolithic upper, 12.5' Stainless Barrel, CAR Length Gas System, KX3 Flash suppressor.

Including the MR223 and Noveske there was one other on my short list, but the appeal of instant gratification (and the 10% off sale that ends today) was simply too much to resist. :)

It will be my first black rifle since my C7 as a CF reservist in 1991-1993, and I'm really looking forward to getting it in hand and to the range.
