First hand impressions of HK MR223?

Funny you should ask, I just modified my last post to add that!

Not entirely sure yet...without doing much research at all, Aimpoint comes to mind.

I have a Lucid HD7 coming from a CGNer for my Marauder 10/22 build that I can use in the interim.

Any suggestions?

I just bought an Aimpoint CompM4s, lots of great reviews on this sight. Questar has plenty in stock and at 10% off that'd make a pretty damn good deal...

Quick question and I dont want to start another thread.

BUT...

Do any of you know if the MR223 will come in shorter barrel versions? (like 10-12")

That'd be the only way I'd get one, and I dont mind selling gear off to get a H&K, did it before.

Two questions:

What's the difference between the CompM4 and CompM4s? Just battery location?

The QRP mount will bolt right on to the Noveske, correct?

Hey Capt.,

Nice choice, as mentioned above, you can't go wrong with a Noveske, although the H&K would have been sweet as well. It must have been a tough choice.

You're correct, the differnece between the 4 and the 4s is battery location. And it will mount onto you new gun without any problems.

Other optics choices? Hmmmmmm! I guess it depends on what you want to use your new 'Toy' for.

I'll offer some of what I've tried on my AR's.

I tried a EoTech XPS 3.0 on my LMT 10.5. It was nice and quick to aquire close range targets, I found I struggled to get the accuracy out of the rifle when shooting 100 yds and further. Plus I have older eyes, with astigmatsim, so the red dot was not very clear to me. I'd suggest you have a look through whatever red dot you plan to buy to ensure you can see the dot clearly.

I then went to an ACOG TA33. This was a really nice sight. You can shoot close up with both eyes open, but can reach out to 100-200 yards very well. I got stupid and sold this sight, as the field of view was not as nice as a friends TA31, I now regret selling that optic!!

I then purchased an ACOG TA31 for the same gun. Great optic in my opinion, very clear, wide field of view, and 100 -300 yard shots were achievable. However, it lacked for close up target aquisition. I can shoot with both eyes open with it, but it's not near as easy as with the 3X. Recently I installed a Jpoint on top of the ACOG, so IMO I have a pretty nice mix of both worlds.

I have a NF 2.5-10x24 on my 16" LMT. Great compact optic, at 2.5 it is great for closer shots, and at 10x I can really reach out with this gun.

But again it depends on what you will use your gun for. But for all around shooting from a 12.5" AR, you may want to consider a 1-4 optic.

If I can stop spending money on other toys. I plan to get a Spector DR 1-4 for my 10.5".

Hope you enjoy the new gun.

Cheers.

Great feedback, thank you.

You're reading my mind actually. I'm knocking around the idea of a 1-4 too - rather than having to use magnifiers with a 1x optic.

Decisions decisions!

How is the short range target acquisition with the Spector DR 1/4? It sounds outstanding, have you played with it before?

I run a Vortex PST 1-4 with IR, on my Noveske 14.5 middy, great all around optic. great for CQB and good for further distances, up to 200ish with my eyes anyway. My CompM4s is for a new build I'm doing, I don't want magnification on this rifle so the M4s fit the bill.

If you want magnification at all either right away or down the road then run a 1-4, it'll have the versatility you're looking for.

As I'll be mounting it on a 12.5" AR and only going out to 200m (the limit of my range) I think I'm set on starting with an Aimpoint T1 2MOA. Seems like a lot of optic for the price, particularly at 10% off. :)

I try a new HK MR223 (date code is BB) and I am shocked about a few things:
1. The MR223, like the HK MR556, come with a disassembly tool now storing inside the buttstock and without it you cannot disassemble the upper and lower separately.
2. I can turn the safety on or off nomatter it is cocked or not, like the MR556 again.
3. Most important, I try to put the MR223 upper on my Noveske lower and it work! I have no chance to test fire it. I try to #### it and dry fire it and it work just fine though.
