Hi, im shopping for my first handgun. I went to a store and took at look at a few (mp9, fns9l, 226, glock, 92fs, CZ). MUST be a 9mm, under 1000$ and i wont do competion just weekend shooting.

I was set on a mp9 for it's simplicity, reliability and price but since i handled the Sig im unsure!

Tomorrow im going to see a used HK USP9 for 800$ and a P320.

Here is the final list that i made:

-New MP9
-New P320
-Used USP9
-Used P226

Wich one do you guy's suggest the most?

At the same time if you are selling one of these send me a pm.

Thanks waiting for your idea!

It's all personal choice.....
For me....Hk usp9
Sig p226
Sig p320
M&p9
But honestly we all have our favourites...if you've handled them ...get which ever fits you best..enjoy..

I had done a lot of research but that doesn't compare to the fit in your hand. I was sure I would want the M&P9 however the IWI baby desert eagle in steel frame fit my hand like a glove. The price was really good as well and it included the range kit.

Look at a cz they are great shooters out of the box. I'd also give a look at the good old Glock 17s. Can't go wrong with the 226 either! you just have to decide what fits you and what you like best
To many choices

Handle as many as you can at the shop. Even better if you can shoot them through a friend or at the range. All individual preference, everyone's choices will be different.

I was dead set on a Beretta 92fs, loved the 92 since I was a kid through pictures in my grandpa's gun magazines. Got my RPAL, went over to a range in Detroit that did rentals, and tried out 4 or 5 different pistols.

Came home and promptly ordered a Glock 17.

It's a bit difficult in Canada depending on where you live but if you can, try before you buy.

Or just go for one. You'll end up with a few anyways :)

Good luck!

New M&P9.
Cheap out of box, easy to mod with many parts readily available - triggers, barrels etc
Real workhorse that will go and go. And go.
7k rounds thru mine and not cleaned one time, no ftf or fte.
Not the greatest but far from the worst, great first time pistol.

If you want simplicity and reliability nothing is more simple than a glock. However i can understand the grip may not be to everyone's liking. So out of what you've said i strongly suggest the p320. The trigger is tons better than the m&p. It breaks down fairly simple. The entire frame can be exchanged. So if you want one frame stippled and the other wrapped in grip tape go for it. I have both the p226 and the p320 and i choose the p320 hands down.

Best advice is to get what's most comfortable in your hand, I can shoot much more accurately with my Glock 17 than a CZ, simply because it fits in my hand much more comfortably. Try polymer and metal frames and see what fits best, pull the trigger and test the slide and see which one your hands prefer, then think about brand, quality, looks, etc.

Theses are all quality handguns. It all depend on you and how the feel in your hands.....

HK
Glock
Sig
Beretta
FN
Smith&Wesson
CZ

Just buy whatever float your boat :)

Thats the best way of finding out what works best for you. A couple times I found out that what I thought I wanted was nowhere close to what I ended up getting after actually tring it out.

Solid advice has been given, handle as many as you can and shoot them if possible. Asks questions?
Don't forget to try revolvers if you can. At first i never gave them a second glance but now my favourit to shoot is a single action ruger new vequaro revolver.

I love the 226 and although I don't like the look of the Glock I shoot it very well and it's comfortable in my hand.

I really like the 226 if it fits you then you have a friend for life as many have mentioned a Glock 17 is a great choice. Either pistol will hold value so your risk is minimul.

P226 is my favourite and the 9mm that I shoot best but Glock 17 really improved my overall handgun proficiency. Both would be great choices IMHO.

For me it was finding an insanely awesome deal on a S&W Sigma that I couldn't pass up as my first handgun... and found out the gun was too light, the grip would shift after the first shot because of that and that nice comfort curve under the slide was smashing my thumb on every trigger pull.

It was a good deal, but I lost 30% on the sale of it.

After that I went to a range with rentals and tried everything I could. When it was over I promptly went to a site sponsor and bought a Sig P226 because I found out I shoot better with a heavy firearm made of heavy metal. But, that's just me and you have to find out what fits you.

I can't stress enough: you'll be a lot happier if you try out a bunch first. Your choices are all awesome guns... if they fit you.

I'm in the same boat... getting close to pulling the trigger on a first pistol as well. Weekend shooter, but unlike you I am interested in possible competition. Like many have said handle as many as you can, it's a bit more challenging to shoot all the options, but for me as soon as I held the CZ 75 I could tell it fit... and the IWI Jericho 941 felt just as good in steel. I know the CZ 75 sp-01 shadow is about as good as you can get for a factory pistol for competition, but I'm leaning towards the Jericho because of the really great price for the 9 with range kit... the rest I could spend on ammo... crap, I really do like the CZ though, I'm torn. lol
