My grandfather acquired this pistol in Paris from a Free French member (along with a St. Etienne 11mm revolver) during the VE Day celebrations.
Colt 1902 Sporting .38 Automatic (serial number 9924 - making it a 1906 production)
I believe he told me it cost him four cartons of cigarettes. How this pistol made it to that point is beyond me. It sure has some history, and now I've finally got my RPAL and the transfer from the estate is in progress. I was hoping to bring it home with me this weekend but that's another story. Soon it will be the centre piece of my collection (with an M&P15-22 soon to join it).
