First Pistol - Your Thoughts?

Which of these do you suggest for my first pistol?

Well I am finally writing my RPAL test next week and providing everything goes well, I plan on purchasing my first pistol shortly thereafter. I have decided that a 9mm will be my choice of caliber, but I am having a bit of difficulty choosing between a few makes/models. So I have decided to do ask for opinions and advice about the three selections I have narrowed it down to.

Please feel free to post your thoughts, experiences, advice and cautions about the pistols I have selected; or go ahead and suggest your favorite. Thanks for any and all input.

blindly, i'd say Glock 17. cheap, simple, reliable, affordable parts, lots of aftermarket support.

and since i feel like posting more...

i'd go for a Glock over an MP9 due to price and parts availability. they are similar in performance and i'm sure each will be just as useful as the other, but the Glock has been around longer so it's got more stuff. plus the MP9 has that mag safety disconnect which would bug the living crap out of me in IDPA. if you never do IDPA and don't plan on competing, it's probably a non-issue.

one is an acura integra and the other is a toyota celica. similar price point and caters to the same approx market, but one has much more market penetration and market support than the other.
 
I can't be the one to help you decide on your first pistol. There are far too many variables & options. Usually, I recommend a .22 as it is cheap and a great way to get familiar with handgun shooting. Having said that, your choices are some I do and some I don't have experience with. It all comes down to what you want & like. I prefer a heavy handgun as the recoil is less on a heavier gun. It seems your list contains only polimer frame options. Seems like you have made up your mind as to what you are looking for. Glock has a bulky grip in my opinion. M&P is far too light for my liking. I ended up with a Sig P226 as it was very comfortable & heavy enough to absorb recoil instead of my elbow taking all the hit. I suggest you try some if possible and decide what you like.
 
first pistol

good day:
i was in the same pridicament about a month ago.
so i did some research,shot a few buddies guns.
did more research.
and decided on a ruger sr9.
so far ive had it for about a week and have put 300 rnds through it.
it's been flawless and very accurate.

i think all guns except for all 1911s are flawless in the first 300 rounds :p
 
I bought my first pistol less than a year ago also. Everyone told me to get a .22lr. I decided to get a 9mm, just because its alot more fun than a .22lr pistol. Nothing beats the big bang, and a little recoil. Sure a .22lr is a good way to practise on a budget, but they just are`nt the same as a centerfire. A 9mm is only about $15 a box so its not going to break the bank too badly, and if you really end up shooting alot then you could always get a .22 also.

I chose to get a CZ 75, just because I like the Single action, but I can also do the first shot Double action, so if I ever choose to get into IPSC, then I would still be in Production class. CZ makes one of the best pistols out there and there only a little bit more then the cheaper Glocks and MPs.

IMHO, a SA DA is more fun and more accurate. and a CZ is alot better looking.
 
ARGH!!! damn it, now i have to re-write



get a 357 revolver instead. load 38 to be as cheap as 9, load 357 for more punch than 45, and stay more reliable in either case. and you can do either SA or DA, don't need to buy magazines, less parts to break, usually can get them in stainless, blah blah blah

And as an added bonus, revolvers don't leave the brass at the scene of the crime...:D
