First restricted what do i need to know

Get somthing cheep to shoot no need to buy a safe queen because you can't afford to feed her. My $.02.

Too late but thanks anyway. And 9mm is very cheap to shoot. This is one of the cheapest pistols they make so in no way is it a safe queen.Just thought it was a good way to get into handguns. Didn't want a norinco or da.

Not for a first restricted, still need proof of range/club membership.

Correct.
Proof of range membership and even the paper ltatt can be emailed between buyer and CFO, so that's a pretty easy step.

I still have a paper ltatt, didn't get a revised rpal with conditions even though I've bought 4 pistols since c-42

Now i'm really confused:confused: Will I get an new RPAL with out renewing???

To the OP: With an on-line purchase, sit back and wait for delivery. You will need the cert in order to take your new toy to the range.

If you haven't got a new one since September then yes you will likely receive one in the mail

Other than some people here on cgn talking about this , I haven't met anyone who has received one of these new rpal' yet. Not including people that were already waiting for an rpal to show up or people who have renewed since c-42

I just bought my first restricted a month ago, received new rpal in mail shortly after with conditions attached to license. New pal still expires in a couple years and looks exactly like old one except for last number.

Since he bought from a dealer, the dealer starts and completes the transfer. If it's your first one you should call the CFO about a week in to check status and see if they require any info from you. Ie range/club membership proof

True but if you call them the following day, it just speeds up the transfer process. That's what I do and I can pick up the gun the next day.

Sorry if this was already covered, but does the range we belong to still have to conduct further training with a member prior to him/her being able to obtain the ATT and use the gun at the range?

Proof of Range Membership?

What do they expect to see?

I have always just told them the name of the range and that seems ok so far. Never been asked for anything.

I don't get anything other than a simple ID card from the range anyway to show them with the name of the club and my name and ID number.

Hope that is good enough if they every ask. :)

So, post C-42, do I need to do anything other than provide proof of membership and wait for my updated RPAL card with the integrated ATT attached, or does somebody at my range have to train me to their standards and apply for me?

yes. It depends on the range how involved it is, but you will have to do a safety course before obtaining an ATT. Mine was a full day classroom and 3 shooting sessions with club guns.It is a very long process to be able to shoot a hand gun in Canada. Take rpal course , wait about six months or more for it to be approved and processed, then join a club and then take their course.

"further training with a member prior to him/her being able to obtain the ATT"
That should be a no.
The club (since C42) is removed from the ATT process.

"and use the gun at the range"
That would be a yes.
The club can have their own rules regarding using it there.

"but you will have to do a safety course before obtaining an ATT"
I disagree. See above.
You get an ATT automatically without that course. You just can't use the gun at the club.

On the subject of club membership my friend tried to be proactive by trying to give proof of club membership right after he received the RPAL but before he made any purchases.

They thought that it would speed the process so they called and said they wanted to fax the information about the club to update their file and speed things up.

They were told that it would not be accepted unless and until it was part of a request for proof of range membership after a purchase as part of that process.

So this means that the information request is automatically part of the application delay process and this is a deliberate procedure to insert it at that stage.

Very counter intuitive. Potentially you have to go through the process over and over when the information is unchanged and can be front ended.

Thanks for your replies to my questions. Hopefully your answers will inform others who, like me, are a little confused by the ATT process. Much appreciated!

I've had my RPAL for a couple of years now and I recently purchased my first restricted firearm. I'll go ahead and contact my club to arrange to take their course if they require it. I'm excited to shoot my Jericho.

update; this is not as easy as i thought. typical cfc run-around. I called cfo today and apparently they sent me a notification saying that I need to contact the range that i am a member of, have them fax a confirmation to cfc and then I wait another 5-7 business days before they complete the transfer. I called my wildlife fed and asked them to fax confirmation and I guess I never renewed my membership this year so I now have to do that and it expires 12/31 of course so I will have to pay a full years membership for 20 days or wait until jan 2 to get a new membership. Looks like I won't have my new handgun this year.
