First revolver (sentimental reasons)

The Gun Dealer in McAdam N.B. has a 6 shot and a 7 shot in stock. Can't hot link http://www .thegundealer.net/ there is a space in the link you have to remove. Personally I would go with the 6 shot as it has been around for ever, easier to get stuff for it like speed loaders etc.

If you want a nice revolver look at the S&W 586/686 or the Ruger GP100 or an older S&W like the 19-x or similar. These guns go for reasonable coin and are great firearms. Just my $0.02

This may be the best way to go....I have the Ruger GP 100 with the 6 inch barrel , and they are a great revolver...food for thought...

Total B.S The Early models were junk. The new models are EXELLENT ! Read any Taurus Forum, and see how happy the owners of the new taurus lines are. They are deadly accurate, close tolerances, built well. Ive got a model 608 357 mag that shoots better than alot of rifles at 200 yards. Do not be afraid to own a Taurus, you will be happy and satisfied.
 
If its for the sake of getting something similar, anything would do. but if you're seriously looking for the sake of honoring you father, save up and go for the Python. And as someone else has said, get dressed up and get the same photo taken, frame it side by side with your old man's. Hell i'd get the thing engraved, make it a new family heirloom
 
If you can afford the Python (and I wish I could) you should hunt one down. Otherwise the 686 6" in stainless is a great gun. I fitted mine with a set of Hogue conversion grips and it's one of my favourite guns ever.

Total B.S. eh!? What did you pay for your Taurus? While you're being a hero, I wouldn't mind seeing a video of you grouping better than a rifle 200 yards out with your 608...if you're going ta brag (and mislead the OP) you better back it up.:needPics:H:S:

How does a Taurus get in the same discussion involving a Python?
Aren't they considered the Norinco of revolvers? Not that it's a bad thing.
 
I think you guys have persuaded me to get the S&W 686 (6"). All the apposing comments to this choice are also appreciated. This decision reminded me of a time when deciding on a watch, which helped in this instance. Bought a Longines when I really wanted a Rolex. Long story short, sold the Longines at a loss and bought the Rolex. I do like the design of the Taurus 608 and I have actually read a lot of positive reviews so I may get one in the future. For now it's S&W. Question: Whats a good price for one? I only located 2 places that have the 6" in stock (both in the plus version 7 shot) around 995 tax incl.
 
Vladvar....your 6" 686 looks very nice with the grips. I've never handled a full under-lug 6" 686. Are they nose heavy?
I ditto JimmieA's comment re: getting the 6-shot vs 7

DelSelins has a few versions of the 686 for sale. There's one on the EE right now!

Grrr, you're right. It's been a long day. I should listen to my "quiet voice" more often (it was screaming "Plinker Nooooo! It's not worth it, anyone in the know already knows he's full of sh1t") I do get a little tired of the "I can shoot 1", 10 rd groups with irons at 800 yards" nonsense though.

Well..... if you can buy a Rolex, maybe you should get the Python then. The S&W might just take the path of the Longines eventually.
 
Enough of this! I wanna see that 200 yd revolver in action! It sounds like a 'Walking Dead' one-handed headshot every time gun!
I bet it be da bomb. (And if you squint your eye when you shoot, the Zombie head explodes!)
